    • Secures second save
Webb earned an extra-innings save against the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit while striking out one batter over one inning.

Advice: Usual Baltimore closer Craig Kimbrel was unsteady again Wednesday, as he was pulled with two outs in the ninth inning after giving up a solo homer and a walk. The game ultimately went into extra frames, and Webb was called upon to shut Washington down after the Orioles took a two-run lead in the top of the 12th. Luis Garcia opened the inning for Washington by doubling home the automatic runner, but Webb was able to bounce back by retiring the next three batters to earn a save. Kimbrel's hold on the closer role could be starting to slip given that he's given up six earned runs over his past five outings covering 2.1 frames, but if he does end up getting demoted at some point, Yennier Cano would likely be the favorite to take over the closer role, so Webb doesn't figure to see more than an occasional unpredictable save chance. • First career start at 1B
Gonzalez started at first base and went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 5-0 loss to Atlanta.

Advice: Gonzalez was activated off the injured list Wednesday and was in the starting lineup against left-hander Chris Sale. It was Gonzalez's first career start at first base. The versatile infielder is expected to see significant playing time against southpaws, and the Red Sox will see two lefties in the upcoming three-game set against Washington. Boston manager Alex Cora told Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe that Gonzalez swings the bat well and feels he can lengthen the lineup from the seventh spot in the order. Nos. 7-9 in Boston's lineup were batting just .209 entering Wednesday's game. Rotowire.com Today, 8:35 pm

    • Michael Conforto collects three hits, homers in win
Michael Conforto went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and a walk on Wednesday in an 8-6 win over the Rockies.

Advice: Conforto put the Giants on the board with a solo homer off Peter Lambert to lead off the second inning. It was the start of a six-run inning as the Giants hit around the order. Conforto added a base hit later in the same inning, then drew a walk and scored in the seventh. The 31-year-old outfielder is slashing .267/.317/.467 with six homers, 18 runs scored, and 19 RBI across 145 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 8:32 pm
    • Elias Díaz homers, drives in three against Giants
Elias Díaz went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI against the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: Díaz brought a run in to score with a base hit in the fifth inning. With a runner on and two outs in the ninth, he brought the Rockies to within two with a home run off Camilo Doval. The 33-year-old catcher is slashing a solid .303/.354/.435 with three homers and 18 RBI across 127 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 8:31 pm

    • Peter Lambert hit for seven runs in loss to Giants
Peter Lambert allowed seven runs over three innings in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: Lambert’s outing lasted just three innings as he was hit for seven runs. Six of those runs came in the second, starting with a solo homer by Michael Conforto to lead off the frame. The Giants would bat around the order before Lambert could escape the inning. Two hits in the third would bring in a seventh run. Lambert ends the day with a 7.61 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and a 20/9 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings. He lines up for a start against the Padres in San Diego on Monday. Rotoworld Today, 8:29 pm

    • Converts for second save
Hudson earned the save Wednesday against Miami, striking out one over a perfect inning.

Advice: Hudson got the first chance at ninth-inning duties after Evan Phillips (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day IL on Sunday and was perfect for his second save of the campaign. Until Phillips returns, the closing job should be Hudson's to lose, though he could have a shorter leash considering he's blown two of his other three save chances this season. • Another impressive outing
Stone (3-1) picked up the win Wednesday against Miami, allowing one run on six hits and no walks over seven innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Outside of a solo homer to Bryan De La Cruz in the fourth inning, Stone was exceptional, yielding one run for a third consecutive start. He's lasted at least six innings in three straight outings, dragging his ERA down to 3.55 through 38.0 frames. With Bobby Miller (shoulder) nearing the start of a rehab assignment, Stone could only have a couple more go-arounds in the Dodgers' rotation, with a date at San Francisco on tap for Tuesday. • Heating up
Taveras went a combined 2-for-8 with a home run, two RBI and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Athletics.

Advice: Taveras hit safely in both ends of the doubleheader, including a two-run homer in the matinee, to extend a hit streak to six games. He's hit safely in 11 of the last 12 contests, going 15-for-42 (.357) with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBI during that run. Taveras had a .200 batting average with just two RBI before the 12-game run, and he's now up to .254 and nine RBI after Wednesday's production. Rotowire.com Today, 8:13 pm

    • Decent showing against LAD
Weathers (2-4) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings against the Dodgers. He struck out three.

Advice: Weathers submitted his second straight quality start; however, he was stuck with the loss as the Marlins could only muster up one run off Gavin Stone and the Dodgers' bullpen. He gave up a two-run home run in the sixth to Teoscar Hernandez, marking Weathers' fifth consecutive start allowing a long ball. The southpaw has been serviceable for Miami this season, having allowed more than three runs once in eight starts with a 1.32 WHIP. Rotowire.com Today, 8:11 pm
