    • Espada: Cristian Javier to return this weekend
Cristian Javier (neck) will return this weekend to start against the Tigers.

Advice: Astros manager Joe Espada confirmed what was being widely speculated that Javier would return to Houston’s injury-plagued starting rotation mix after making a minor league rehab start on Saturday for Double-A Corpus Christi. The 27-year-old righty might need some time to knock off the rust, but there likely won’t be any workload restrictions after throwing 68 pitches in his lone rehab outing. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago
    • On bench Tuesday
Wong is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: It's the second straight game on the bench for Wong, which is surprising given he's been one of the most productive catchers in baseball with a .950 OPS. Reese McGuire went 2-for-4 with a double and stolen base Sunday and is making his second consecutive start behind the plate Tuesday. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago

    • Moves up to leadoff spot Tuesday
Carroll will start in center field and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game in Cincinnati.

Advice: It's the first time since April 22 that Carroll has hit higher than seventh. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year did have two base knocks and two RBI in Monday's game, his first multi-hit effort since April 19. Rotowire.com Today, 12:34 pm
    • Taking seat against southpaw
Cruz is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Angels.

Advice: The left-handed hitting Cruz was in the lineup each of the previous two times the Pirates faced a southpaw, but he will begin Tuesday's game on the bench as the Angels send lefty Patrick Sandoval to the hill. Alika Williams will occupy shortstop and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 11:00 am

    • Homers again Monday
Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-3 win against the Marlins.

Advice: Hernandez hit one of four Dodgers homers in the contest, smashing a 418-foot solo shot in the third inning. It was his second straight game with a long ball, and he's gone deep three times in his past four games. Hernandez is up to nine home runs and 26 RBI on the season while slashing .259/.325/.490 and adding 24 runs and three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:08 pm
    • Teoscar Hernández swats ninth homer of season
Teoscar Hernández hit a solo homer while going 2-for-4 in a win over the Marlins on Monday.

Advice: He also singled. It’s the ninth homer of the season for Hernández, and one of four the Dodgers hit off Marlins starter Roddery Muñoz in Monday’s victory. The outfielder has also driven in 26 runs over 37 games with a decent — if unspectacular — slash of .259/.325/.490. So far, so good in Hernández’s first season as a member of the Dodgers. • Gets stitches removed
Alvarez had the stitches removed Monday from his surgically repaired left thumb, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Alvarez underwent surgery April 23 to address a torn UCL in the thumb on his glove hand. At the time his surgery was performed, the Mets estimated that Alvarez would need eight weeks to make a full recovery, so he appears unlikely to return from the injured list until around late June. A more precise target date for his return should come into focus once he resumes taking batting practice and performing defensive drills. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:56 pm

    • Francisco Alvarez has stitches removed from thumb
Francisco Alvarez had the stitches from his surgically repaired left thumb removed Monday.

Advice: Alvarez is currently with the Mets to take part in the pitcher/catcher meetings according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. The backstop is two weeks into what is expected to be a two-month rehab after undergoing surgery to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb. If all continues to trend well, Alvarez could be back with the Mets around the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:50 pm

    • Takes loss against Mariners
Hader (1-3) allowed a solo home run and struck out one to take the loss Sunday against the Mariners.

Advice: Hader entered the game in the ninth inning with the score tied 4-4. He retired the first batter he faced but then served up the go-ahead homer to Cal Raleigh. Hader had turned in three consecutive appearances without giving up an earned run prior to Sunday, though he's now been charged with at least one run in six of his 15 appearances.
