    • Grabs third save
Hoffman earned the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Nationals, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: After Jose Alvarado finished the eighth inning, the Phillies turned to Hoffman in the ninth. The right-hander worked around Joey Gallo's one-out double, closing out the 4-2 victory for his third save of the season -- his first since April 30. Hoffman's been sharp this year, pitching to a 0.90 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB over 20 innings. While Alvarado is still likely Philly's preferred ninth-inning option, Hoffman should see the occasional save chance depending on matchups. Rotowire.com Today, 6:26 pm

    • Jeff Hoffman slams door on Nationals in ninth
Jeff Hoffman slammed the door on the Nationals in the ninth inning on Friday evening, protecting a two-run lead to earn his third save of the season.

Advice: Jose Alvarado came on to get the final two outs in the eighth inning of this one, leaving Hoffman to clean things up in the ninth. He did allow a one-out double to Joey Gallo that brought the tying run to the dish, but was able to get Ildemaro Vargas on a pop up to second base and Jesse Winker on a fly ball to right field to end it. Hoffman has been outstanding out of the Phillies’ bullpen this season, registering a 0.90 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 27/7 K/BB ratio across 19 1/3 innings. Rotoworld Today, 6:00 pm

    • Returns to mound
Chapman (finger) struck out two and did not allow a baserunner in a scoreless inning to earn a hold Thursday against the Cubs.

Advice: Chapman was removed from Sunday's appearance with a cracked fingernail, but the issue was never expected to require a long-term absence. After beginning the season as the Pirates' primary setup man, Chapman appeared in the seventh inning Thursday while Colin Holderman followed him in the eighth frame. Rotowire.com Today, 7:35 am
    • Stuck with loss against M's
Marsh (3-1) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk over five innings as the Royals fell 4-2 to the Mariners. He struck out seven.

Advice: The right-hander generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 102 pitches -- his biggest workload of the season -- but didn't get enough support from his offense or defense to avoid his first loss. A stint on the injured list after taking a comebacker off his pitching elbow hasn't derailed Marsh's momentum, as he's given up just two earned runs total over his last four starts while posting a 21:7 K:BB in his last 20.1 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Tigers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:19 am

    • Can't contain Colorado
King (3-4) took the loss against the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven betters over 5.1 innings.

Advice: King fell behind when he yielded three runs in the second inning, and San Diego's offense never put up a fight against Austin Gomber and a trio of Rockies relievers. King had been on a roll coming into Wednesday, putting up 13 scoreless frames over his previous two starts, but he's been very inconsistent this season, giving up at least four runs in four of his 10 appearances. Altogether, he's registered a mediocre 4.31 ERA and 1.36 WHIP along with a 61:26 K:BB through 54.1 innings. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:15 pm

    • Alec Marsh pitches well in loss to Mariners
Alec Marsh pitched well in a losing effort against the Mariners on Wednesday afternoon, surrendering two runs (one earned) on five hits over his five frames.

Advice: The right-hander punched out seven batters on the day while allowing only one base on balls. The Mariners scratched out an unearned run against him in the second inning, then Ty France got him for a solo homer in the fourth inning — but that was the extent of the damage done against him. Marsh got a whopping 16 swings and misses on 102 pitches on the day — nine of those on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 29 percent. He’ll carry a stellar 2.43 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 31/10 K/BB ratio (37 innings) into a nice matchup against the Tigers in Kansas City on Tuesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:50 pm

    • Michael King hit hard in loss to Rockies
Michael King was hit hard in Wednesday afternoon’s loss to the Rockies, surrendering six runs on eight hits across his 5 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: On the plus side for fantasy managers, King racked up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing just two free passes. The Rockies scored three times in the second inning — including a solo blast by Brenton Doyle — then tacked on two more in the third. King settled in nicely afterwards though and kept them at bay until the sixth, where he exited after allowing single that eventually came around to score. King got 14 swings and misses on 89 pitches on the afternoon while registering a CSW of 33 percent. With extreme inconsistency on the season, he now sports a 4.31 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 60/26 K/BB ratio over 54 innings through his first 10 appearances (nine starts). He’ll do battle against the Reds his next time out in Cincinnati on Tuesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:52 pm

    • Dealing with cracked nail
Chapman is dealing with a cracked nail on his throwing hand, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Pirates haven't officially announced whether Chapman is available for games, but he hasn't appeared since Sunday, when the issue developed. He played catch Tuesday and is healing well, so he looks set to avoid a trip to the injured list. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:22 am
    • Rocked by Yankees
Paddack (4-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing five runs on 12 hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Paddack couldn't get much by the Yankees on Tuesday, tying his career high in hits allowed while all nine NYY batters generated a hit. The poor showing was a surprise considering Paddack was victorious in his previous four starts -- allowing five runs across 23.1 innings with two 10-strikeout games. Paddack has allowed two or fewer runs in five of his eight starts but owns a 4.89 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP over 42.1 innings. He's lined up to face the Guardians in Cleveland on Sunday.
