• On mend from season-ending surgery
Caceres underwent season-ending surgery in March to address a right lat strain, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Caceres suffered the injury in spring training and opened the season on Triple-A Salt Lake's 60-day injured list. The Angels recalled Caceres on May 9, but the move was merely procedural, as he was simultaneously placed on the big club's 60-day IL for the purpose of opening up a spot on the 40-man roster. Caceres, who made two relief appearances for the Angels in 2023, should be back to full health -- or close to it -- for the start of spring training in 2025. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:40 pm

  • Goes five innings in rehab start
Silseth (elbow) struck out four and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Making the fourth start of his rehab assignment and his second in a row with Salt Lake, Silseth built up to 78 pitches. Though he threw only 47 strikes, issued three free passes and uncorked one wild pitch, Silseth's outing still represented a step forward from his last rehab start Tuesday, when he walked five over 2.2 innings. According to MLB.com, Angels manager Ron Washington said that Silseth could return from the 60-day injured list to make his next appearance with the big club, though a decision on that front will depend on how the right-hander feels physically coming out of the Triple-A start. • Dealing with intercostal strain
Grove was diagnosed Sunday with a right intercostal strain but isn't expected to miss more than a few weeks, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Prior reports had suggested that Grove's placement on the 15-day injured list earlier Sunday was the result of a right lat injury, but his health concern is now being classified differently. While Grove could still miss more than the minimum 15 days, he'll have a chance to make it back before the Dodgers wrap up their first-half schedule July 14. Grove made 12 starts for Los Angeles in 2023 but has worked exclusively in relief for the big club this season, aside from two occasions in which he served as an opener. He's been deployed mostly in the middle innings and has accrued a 5.06 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over his 28 appearances while notching four wins and six holds. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:06 pm

  • Earns one-out save
Cano struck out the only batter he faced Sunday to earn the save against the Phillies.

Advice: Cano was called upon to clean up a bases-loaded situation with the tying run on deck and two outs in the ninth, earning his third save in the process. Cano earned the opportunity with usual closer Craig Kimbrel being rested after having pitched in each of the first two games of the series. While Cano maintains a prominent role in the Orioles' bullpen, Kimbrel has not allowed an earned run in over a month and maintains a strong hold on the closer role. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:41 pm
  • Tosses two scoreless frames
Joyce allowed a hit and a walk over two shutout innings as the opener Sunday. He struck out three while the Angels lost to San Francisco.

Advice: Joyce threw 22 of 42 pitches for strikes and also hit a batter during his appearance but managed to keep the Giants off the board. The Angels bullpen went on to allow 13 runs in six innings in the ugly loss. Joyce lowered his ERA to 7.94 with a 5:4 K:BB through 5.2 frames since being promoted from Double-A Rocket City earlier this month. He's thrown 3.2 scoreless innings over his last two outings. • Earns league-leading 24th save
Helsley allowed two walks during a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save Sunday against the Cubs. He struck out one.

Advice: Helsley tossed just 11 of 23 pitches for strikes and started behind in the count to four of five batters he faced but still managed to finish off the game for the Cardinals when a drive to the gap by pinch-hitter Patrick Wisdom with two on was snagged by Brendan Donovan to preserve the win. It was another shaky outing for Helsley, who has struggled recently with his command, walking four over his last two appearances. Despite the recent trouble, he maintains an ERA of 2.53 and has converted each of his last 24 save opportunities, last blowing a save March 30 during his first appearance of the season. • Sidelined with shoulder issue
Triple-A Norfolk placed Heasley on its 7-day injured list Sunday with right shoulder inflammation, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After a brief stint with the Orioles, Heasley returned to Norfolk on May 24 and posted a 6.75 ERA and 2.16 WHIP over three outings at Triple-A before landing on the IL. Heasley will be shut down for at least the next week while he waits for the inflammation in his shoulder to subside. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:59 pm
  • Dane Dunning fans eight, gets lifted in fifth
Dane Dunning allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings and struck out eight before being lifted from his start against the Mariners on Sunday.

Advice: Dunning’s K rate this year has been quite encouraging — he’s fanned 67 in 59 innings — but the extra homers and extra walks he’s given up have made him a far less effective pitcher than he was last year. If he remains in the rotation and has more luck with homers, he still might be a factor in mixed leagues after the break. However, if all goes as the Rangers hope and they get to add Max Scherzer, Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom to the rotation, Dunning could finish the year in the pen. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:22 pm

  • Evan Phillips improves to 10-for-10 in saves
Evan Phillips turned in a hitless ninth with a three-run lead for a save Sunday against the Royals.

Advice: Phillips had one rough outing in his second appearance back from the injured list, but he’s been lights out otherwise. This one made him 10-for-10 in save chances and put his ERA back under 2.00 at 1.93. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:46 pm
