      Encarnacion-Strand (hand) and teammate Tyler Stephenson are expected to return Friday when the Reds host the Orioles, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

      Advice: The Reds' bats went quiet on their 2-4 road trip against the Rangers and Padres, hitting .201 as a team while averaging 10 strikeouts per game on the trip. Of course, Encarnacion-Strand has been struggling this year in both aspects, hitting .196 with a troubling 3:31 BB:K ratio in 108 plate appearances. Perhaps with better health and better weather he will come close to displaying the form he showed in 2023, when he hit .270/.328/.477 in 241 plate appearances at the big league level.       Torres went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Orioles.

      Advice: Torres led off the sixth inning with a 418-foot shot to center field off Keegan Akin, cutting the Yankees' deficit to 7-2. While it didn't ultimately impact the final score, the home run was certainly a weight off of Torres' shoulders -- he'd gone 32 games without a long ball to start the campaign, a homerless streak of 53 regular-season games if you go back to Torres' last home run Sept. 7.       Christopher Morel connected on a three-run homer Thursday in an extra-inning loss to the Mets.

      Advice: Morel extended the Cubs’ lead to 4-0 in the fifth with a three-run blast off Adrian Houser. The second-year infielder has gone deep five times, and he’s now up to 17 RBI over Chicago’s 32 games.       Bradish did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Yankees, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Bradish had to contend with some traffic Thursday, though he'd ultimately hold the Yankees to one run on Anthony Rizzo's two-out RBI single in the third inning. Overall, it was an encouraging debut from Bradish after he'd missed the first month of the season with a partially torn UCL -- he averaged 95 mph with his sinker while inducing six whiffs on his slider, both in line with his numbers from last year. It remains to be seen how much deeper the Orioles will allow Bradish to work in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for a road matchup with the Nationals.       Kyle Bradish went 4 2/3 innings while allowing one run on four hits in his start against the Yankees on Thursday.

      Advice: Bradish was making his season debut after missing the first month of the year due to his elbow ailment, and while he wasn’t able to get the needed outs to qualify for the win, it’s fair to call this a successful outing. The 27-year-old allowed four hits and two walks, but he was able to fan five while landing 51-of-84 pitches for strikes.       Advice: Smith hit one of two homers in the game for Los Angeles, taking Jordan Montgomery deep to left field for a fifth-inning solo shot. The All-Star catcher went deep just once over his first 23 games of the season but has picked up the power since, swatting three long balls over his past five contests.       Luzardo (elbow) threw a successful bullpen session Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Luzardo will make a rehab start sometime during the Marlins' upcoming road trip. The left-hander is eligible for activation from the 15-day injured list on May 10, and he could be a realistic candidate to start against the Phillies that day, if all goes well in his throwing program.     • O’s activate Kyle Bradish for Thursday start
      Orioles activated RHP Kyle Bradish from the 15-day injured list.

      Advice: Bradish will make his long-awaited season debut on Thursday afternoon against the divisional-rival Yankees in the final game of a four-game series. The 27-year-old right-hander has been on the injured list since the start of the regular season and comes back at a good time as the team had to place Grayson Rodriguez on the injured list on Wednesday.       The Orioles reinstated Bradish (elbow) from the 15-day injured list and will have him start Thursday's game against the Yankees at Camden Yards.

      Advice: Baltimore lost Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) to the 15-day IL on Wednesday, but they'll add two pitchers back into the rotation this week with Bradish returning Thursday and John Means (elbow) expected to take the hill Friday or Saturday in Cincinnati. Bradish was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in his pitching elbow upon reporting to spring training, but he was able to avoid surgery and has seemingly bounced back from the injury after a lengthy rest and rehab period. He closed his three-start minor-league rehab assignment on a high note last Friday with Triple-A Norfolk, striking out six over five innings and allowing one run on five hits and one walk. He built up to 77 pitches in that outing and should have only a light workload restriction in place Thursday when he makes his 2024 Orioles debut.
