    • Olson hit hard again in loss Friday
Reese Olson allowed eight runs in four innings and took the loss against the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: Olson gave up 12 hits, walked one and struck out six. He allowed five runs to the Red Sox in his last start and followed it up with his worst start of the season. Olson had a 1.92 ERA at the end of May, but now his ERA is 3.43 on the season. He allowed two home runs against the Red Sox in his last start, but didn’t allow any home runs to the Brewers. Olson did allow three doubles and a triple to Milwaukee. He struck out three in the first inning, but then allowed five runs in the second inning and it was downhill from there. The 24-year-old right-hander will look to bounce back against the Nationals at home next week. Rotoworld Today, 6:26 pm

    • Has Atlanta's number
Irvin (4-5) earned the win Friday over Atlanta, allowing four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Irvin has now thrown 14 scoreless innings in two starts against Atlanta this year, allowing just six hits while logging 14 strikeouts. The 27-year-old right-hander has now delivered four straight quality starts, pitching to a 1.47 ERA in that span. Irvin's lowered his ERA to 3.12 on the season with a 1.03 WHIP and 64:14 K:BB across 75 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Detroit. • Battling finger soreness
Weathers was removed from Friday's game against the Guardians due to left index finger soreness, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Advice: Weathers was only able to get through 2.1 innings before being pulled, during which he allowed two earned runs on four hits while striking out three batters and walking none. The Marlins haven't provided any information regarding the severity of his injury, but they'll likely keep an eye on his finger as he approaches his next scheduled start -- tentatively scheduled for Thursday against the Mets. Ryan Weathers left Friday’s start against the Guardians with left index finger soreness.

Advice: Weathers threw 2 1/3 innings while allowing two runs before exiting in the third inning. The left-hander will likely undergo testing to determine the severity of the injury, but for now should be considered day-to-day. Rotoworld Today, 5:44 pm

    • Set to undergo UCL surgery
Manager John Schneider said Friday that Manoah will undergo UCL surgery June 17, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Manoah left in the second inning of his last start May 29 against the White Sox, and he was placed on the injured list two days later with what was diagnosed as a right UCL sprain. Manoah began the season on the IL with right shoulder inflammation, and since returning May 5, he's posted a 1-2 record with a 3.70 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 26:8 K:BB over 24.1 innings. It's not clear whether Manoah will need Tommy John surgery or a brace repair, but the procedure will end the 26-year-old right-hander's 2024 season. Rotowire.com Today, 5:02 pm

    • Manoah to miss remainder of 2024 after UCL surgery
Alek Manoah will miss the rest of the 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair his right UCL on June 17.

Advice: Manoah left his last outing with left elbow discomfort, and the 26-year-old will need to miss the remainder of 2024 after undergoing the procedure. It’s yet another setback for a right-hander who was among the best young hurlers in baseball in 2022, and now has many more questions than answers regarding his future in the sport. • Touches 90 mph in sim game
Kershaw (shoulder) hit 90 mph during his two-inning simulated game Friday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Friday's session was the second simulated game for Kershaw. The velocity he showed is a good sign that the veteran southpaw is progressing well through his offseason shoulder surgery. Kershaw will throw another simulated game next week, though when he will begin a minor-league rehab stint remains to be seen. Rotowire.com Today, 3:20 pm

    • Astros confirm Tommy John surgery for Urquidy
José Urquidy underwent successful Tommy John surgery Wednesday, the Astros announced.

Advice: We know Urquidy underwent surgery Wednesday and everyone assumed it was Tommy John, but the Astros didn’t confirm it until today. Urquidy likely will attempt to return next August or September. One imagines the Astros will non-tender him this winter, particularly since he’ll be eligible for free agency after next year anyway. • Rehab assignment extended
Bubic (elbow) had his rehab assignment extended by 10 days Thursday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Advice: While Bubic was nearing the end of his 30-day rehab window, Rogers notes that the 10-day extension is an exception for pitchers coming back from Tommy John surgery. Bubic made his eighth rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, throwing four scoreless innings while striking out four. Rotowire.com Today, 2:41 pm
