    • Homer, three RBI in win
Triolo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Triolo opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run shot off Kyle Hendricks before driving in a third run with a base hit in the fourth. It's the first multi-hit game since May 3 for Triolo -- he'd gone just 2-for-30 in his prior 10 contests. The 26-year-old infielder is now slashing .201/.291/.257 with two homers, 15 RBI, eight runs scored and three steals through 41 games this season. With Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) set to resume baseball activities early next week, Triolo could soon be headed back to a bench role. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

    • Falls to Pittsburgh
Hendricks (0-4) took the loss Friday against the Pirates, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Hendricks started the day well, allowing just one hit through his first two scoreless innings. However, Jared Triolo would snap a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the third before the Pirates tacked on three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, sticking Hendrick's with his fourth loss. It's been a brutal start to the year for the veteran right-hander -- Hendricks has now allowed five or more runs in five of his first seven outings. His ERA is up to 10.57 with a 1.99 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB across 30.2 innings this year. Things won't get any easier for Hendricks in his next start -- he's' currently in line for a tough home matchup with Atlanta. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago

    • Outrighted to Charlotte
Ortega cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Ortega held the right to decline his outright assignment and elect free agency, but he will instead remain within the White Sox organization and look to turn things around in the minors. The 33-year-old went 1-for-14 during his stint with the Sox, but he has slashed .241/.378/.431 with 14 RBI through 75 plate appearances with Charlotte. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago

    • Mitch Spence to start for Athletics on Friday
Athletics’ manager Mark Kotsay told reporters that Mitch Spence will start on Friday night against the Royals in Kansas City.

Advice: Kotsay noted that for now, it’s just a one-start thing, but that if Spence pitches well he could secure a spot in the team’s rotation. The 26-year-old Rule-5 pick has registered a 4.26 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 22/7 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings in 11 appearances with the A’s this season. He threw 72 pitches against the Marlins on May 5, so he may be able to work deep enough into Friday’s outing to earn a victory if the A’s offense provides enough support. • Continuing assignment Saturday
Lowe (oblique) will resume his rehab assignment Saturday at Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Lowe initially landed on the injured list April 12 with a strained right oblique, and he played four rehab games in the minors before a setback temporarily halted his assignment Sunday. Now that he's been cleared to get back on the field, the plan is for Lowe to play two more games with Durham before returning to Tampa Bay on Monday ahead of its upcoming series against the Red Sox. • Kyle Manzardo rides the pine again on Friday night
Kyle Manzardo is not in the Guardians’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Twins.

Advice: Fantasy managers were hopeful that Manzardo would at least find himself as a regular against right-handed pitching once he was promoted from Triple-A Columbus, but that hasn’t been the case so far. The 23-year-old slugger has hit just .148/.207/.185 with zero RBI and a 10/1 K/BB ratio in his first 29 plate appearances at the game’s highest level. David Fry will function as the Guardians’ designated hitter on Friday night and will bat fifth against Simeon Woods Richardson and the Twins. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

    • Kyle Hendricks gets roughed up by Pirates in loss
Kyle Hendricks was lit up for eight runs — seven earned — and 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Hendricks had a decent effort against the same lineup Sunday in his first start off the IL, but the Pirates had his number today. It perhaps shouldn’t have been quite as bad as it was; he actually wound up with a nice 35% CSW and none of the nine hard-hit balls he allowed came in over 103.9 mph. He struck out four and walked none. Hendricks’ spot is probably safe for now, but similar results this weekend against Atlanta might force the Cubs to make a change even before Jordan Wicks returns. • Jared Triolo homers as part of three-RBI day
Jared Triolo delivered a two-run homer and an RBI single against the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: Ke’Bryan Hayes’ back injury gave Triolo a reprieve when Nick Gonzales was called up, but Gonzales is performing well so far (.824 OPS) and Triolo will need more of this if he’s going to stick around after Hayes returns. Triolo entered the day having gone hitless in his last four games and having collected only three extra-base hits in 161 plate appearances on the season. He’s at .201/.291/.257 overall. • Yasmani Grandal knocks in three against Cubs
Yasmani Grandal went 2-for-5 and knocked in three runs in the rout of the Pirates on Friday.

Advice: Grandal has started four of the last five games over Joey Bart, so it’s not much of a job share behind the plate for the Pirates right now. Grandal has hit .212/.229/.424 but with nine RBI in 10 games since coming off the injured list. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago
