    • Gets break Friday
Caballero is not in the lineup for Friday's matchup against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Caballero has started in the majority of games for Tampa Bay at shortstop this season, but he will get a break as the Rays kick off their series with Toronto. The 27-year-old has started all but five of the team's 45 games this season, slashing .252/.309/.360 with 17 stolen bases and 13 RBI. Amed Rosario will get the start in place of Caballero at shortstop and bat seventh against the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago

    • Misses lineup
Polanco (hamstring) isn't in the Mariners lineup Friday at Baltimore.

Advice: Polanco will miss a third straight game with right hamstring soreness. Once again, Josh Rojas will slide to second base while Luis Urias starts at third. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

    • Activated from IL
Mendick (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Friday.

Advice: Mendick was placed on the injured list in early May with soreness in his back and only needed two rehab starts before being activated. During those two Triple-A games, Mendick went 0-for-8 with two walks and a run scored. He'll replace Braden Shewmake on the big-league roster and could see immediate action at third base with Bryan Ramos on the 10-day IL with a strained left quad. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago

    • Optioned to AAA
Shewmake was optioned to Triple-AAA Charlotte on Friday.

Advice: Shewmake will move back to Charlotte with Danny Mendick (back) being reinstated from the 10-day IL on Friday. The 26-year-old struggled during 29 games in the bigs, slashing .125/.134/.203 with one walk across 67 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

    • Swipes second bag
Schuemann went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Astros.

Advice: Schuemann singled in his first at-bat before swiping his second bag of the season, though he would be left stranded as Oakland failed to generate any offense against a dominant Cristian Javier. The second baseman has now hit safely in five of his last six games, going 6-for-20 (.300) over that stretch with a homer, a double and four RBI. The stolen base was Schuemann's first since April 20 against the Guardians. Rotowire.com Today, 7:08 am

    • Out of lineup Thursday
Triolo isn't in the Pirates' lineup Thursday versus the Cubs.

Advice: Triolo will begin the day on the bench amid his recent struggles. After going 0-for-3 on Wednesday, he has just two hits in his last 39 plate appearances. The third baseman has been starting in the absence of Ke'Bryan Hayes, but Nick Gonzales will slide over from second to third Thursday. Alika Williams joins the lineup at second and will bat ninth. • Jon Berti starting at 3B for Yankees on Thursday
Jon Berti will start at 3B and bat eighth for the Yankees on Thursday against the Twins.

Advice: Berti has started four games at third base over the last week, with Oswaldo Cabrera starting two and playing second for another. Berti has gone 6-for-19 (.316) in six games since coming off the IL with two steals; however, Cabrera is 9-for-30 (.300) in 10 games in May with six strikeouts and two walks, so he’s certainly not giving the job up to Berti without a fight. The two are likely to rotate the vast majority of the games for the foreseeable future which hurts both of their fantasy upside. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:55 am

    • Steals third bag of season
Vargas went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Batting third against southpaw Garrett Crochet as Nats manager Dave Martinez desperately tried to spark his struggling offense, Vargas didn't make a big impact but was able to steal his third bag of the year, tying his career high. The 32-year-old utility player has been seeing semi-consistent starts in May, batting .294 (5-for-17) in nine games with three doubles, two runs and an RBI. He's already played 10-plus games at both second base and third base in 2024 while also seeing duty in left field (six games) and at shortstop (three games), giving him some fantasy value in deep NL-only formats. • On bench in second straight
Martin is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: After recently picking up four starts in a five-game stretch, Martin finds himself on the bench for the second straight day. While he's up with the big club, the right-handed-hitting Martin should play regularly versus left-handed pitching, but the trio of Alex Kirilloff, Willi Castro and Max Kepler looks to be the Twins' preferred outfield alignment against right-handers. The outfield will become even more crowded when Byron Buxton (knee) returns from the 10-day injured list, perhaps as soon as this weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:20 am
