      Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-2 win over San Francisco.

      Advice: Gurriel led off the second inning with a home run, his eighth of the season, to give Arizona an early lead. It was the second consecutive game in which he homered in his first plate appearance. The outfielder has a modest six-game hit streak, going 6-for-24 during that stretch.       Tyler Anderson pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball Monday against the Padres.

      Advice: Anderson has made a mockery of the metrics all season, but especially lately; his last four starts have seen him allow a total of four runs even though he’s given up three homers and posted a 14/13 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings.       Anderson allowed a run on five hits and three walks over 6.2 innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out two during the victory against San Diego.

      Advice: Anderson served up a solo shot to Manny Machado in the first inning but otherwise worked around danger for the rest of the night. Anderson has given up exactly one run in four straight outings despite registering a lackluster 14:13 K:BB during that span. On the year, his ERA is down to an impressive 2.37, while he's delivered eight quality starts in 12 appearances. Anderson's next start is in line to be at home against the Astros.       Verlander did not factor into the decision in Monday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

      Advice: Verlander got into immediate trouble, allowing solo home runs to Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman in the first inning. He labored through the next four, surrendering a total of eight hard-hit balls, including another homer by Gorman, and leaving with a 4-2 deficit. Verlander was coming off back-to-back nine-strikeout efforts, but he has now failed to reach six innings in four of his nine starts this season.       Alex Bergman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Cardinals on Monday.

      Advice: The home run was Bregman’s ninth of the season. With the Astros trailing by one in the eighth inning, he homered off JoJo Romero to tie the game. Bregman is still hitting just .229 on the season, but his .234 BABIP is significantly lower than his career .280 BABIP.     • Verlander allows four runs in no-decision Monday
      Justin Verlander allowed four runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Astros’ 7-4 victory over the Cardinals on Monday.



      Advice: Verlander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four. He allowed three home runs and has now allowed 11 home runs in 52 innings (1.90 HR/9) this season. That’s a significant uptick from the 18 home runs he allowed in 162 innings (1.00 HR/9) last year. Also troubling is Verlander’s 23 percent ground ball percentage, which would be a career-low. While his ERA is 3.63 on the season, his xFIP is over full run higher at 4.70. Verlander has benefitted from an 86 percent left on base percentage, which has helped drive his ERA down but is unlikely to last all year. The 41-year-old right-hander is set to face the Angels on the road this weekend.

    • Lands on IL with groin strain
      The Giants placed Snell on the 15-day injured list Monday with a left groin strain.

      Advice: Snell had to depart Sunday's start versus the Yankees with the injury. He had been set to undergo an MRI, and while the results of that exam have yet to be revealed, the strain is significant enough to cost the left-hander at least a couple weeks of action.
