    • Ryan Pepiot unravels in fourth inning
      Ryan Pepiot allowed two earned runs in 3 1/3 on Friday against the Pirates. He walked four and struck out three.

      Advice: Pepiot started strong with three punch outs in his first three innings and held a big lead. He looked to be in complete control until a lead-off walk to Rowdy Tellez in the bottom of the fourth and wouldn’t make it through the inning. His line could’ve been worse as he left the game with the bases loaded and one out, but Colin Poche got out of the jam with a double-play ball. It seemed he didn’t have a feel for his slider in this one as he threw just three. That pitch has been a difference-maker for him this season and it would be a concern if he took it out of his repertoire going forward. Rotoworld Friday, 6:29 pm
       
    • Bypassed in save opportunity
      Neris was not used to close out Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants, with Colten Brewer getting the save instead.

      Advice: Neris took the loss and blew a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) in an inning of work, and he's allowed a total of seven earned runs over his last three outings. The veteran's ERA has climbed to 4.73 as a result of his recent struggles, and he's blown four saves this year in 14 chances. Chicago manager Craig Counsell said following Monday's game that he didn't plan on making a change at closer, according to James Neveau of Yahoo Sports, but this situation could be fluid.     • Winds up with win
      Duran (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday against Tampa Bay, striking out two during a perfect ninth inning.

      Advice: Duran took the mound in the top of the ninth inning with the game tied, 6-6, and didn't allow a hit for a fifth consecutive appearance. After Carlos Santana delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth, Duran ended up qualifying for his third win of the campaign.     • Short outing vs. Mariners
      McKenzie (3-4) took the loss Tuesday against Seattle, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks over 2.1 innings without recording a strikeout.

      Advice: After holding the Mariners scoreless through his first two innings, McKenzie allowed five of the first six batters to reach safely in the third, ultimately surrendering four runs before the Guardians turned to the bullpen. The 26-year-old McKenzie has struggled of late -- he hasn't made it through six innings in five straight starts, posting a 7.04 ERA in that span. Overall, his ERA is up to 4.48 on the season with a 1.46 WHIP and 65:42 K:BB across 70.1 innings.       Munoz earned the save Tuesday in an 8-5 win over Cleveland, allowing one hit while striking out one over 1.2 innings.

      Advice: The Mariners turned to Munoz after Trent Thornton loaded the bases in the eighth. Munoz would proceed to coax a pair of groundouts to get out of the inning before turning in a scoreless ninth, earning his 13th save of the campaign and his third of four or more outs.     • Andrés Muñoz locks down save in win
      Andrés Muñoz pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to lock down the Mariners’ 8-5 win over the Guardians on Tuesday.

      Advice: The Mariners brought Muñoz in with the bases loaded with one out in the eighth inning and the Mariners up by four runs. He got a groundout which allowed one run to score but then induced another groundout to end the threat. The 25-year-old has battled through back injuries all season but still has a 1.47 ERA and now has 13 saves. The biggest threat to his value appears to simply be that the Mariners have no problem bringing him in before the ninth inning which will sometimes prevent him from earning saves.     • McKenzie can’t escape third inning in loss
      Triston McKenzie allowed four runs on three hits in 2 1/3 while walking four and striking out nobody in a loss to the Mariners.

      Advice: This is now the fifth straight subpar start for McKenzie, who had an uptick in velocity tonight but saw no benefit from it. We know he’s pitching through an injury, and he’s just clearly not healthy when he’s out there on the mound right now. He didn’t throw a single slider in the strike zone tonight and had just a 40 percent zone rate overall. With Gavin Williams on the way back, you have to wonder if McKenzie might be in jeopardy of losing his spot in the rotation. He’ll take a 4.48 ERA into an okay matchup against the Blue Jays this weekend, but he’s simply tough to trust right now. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:20 pm

      Neris (6-2) took the loss and blew a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter over one inning.

      Advice: Neris entered in the top of the ninth frame with Chicago leading by two runs. He got one out before Jorge Soler reached base on catcher's interference. Mike Yastrzemski followed with a walk before Thairo Estrada gave San Francisco the lead with a three-run homer. Though Neris retired the following two batters, the damage had been done, and the Cubs weren't able to mount a comeback in the bottom of the frame. The blown save was the fourth of the season for Neris and his third over his past seven chances.       Advice: The Cubs’ lead evaporated quickly in the ninth inning. With one out, Jorge Soler reached on a catcher interference. After Neris issued a walk to Mike Yastrzemski, Thairo Estrada hit a three-run home run to give the Giants a 7-6 lead. Neris now has four blown saves on the year including two blown saves in his last three opportunities. Neris’ ERA is now 4.73 on the year. His grip on the closer role loosens with every blown save.
