      Advice: Pivetta struck out two in a 1-2-3 first inning, but it was a struggle after that. He managed to escape a bases-loaded situation in the second inning, but in the third the Brewers had six straight runners reach base (five via hits) with two outs and scored five runs. Pivetta has now had two great outings but also two duds since coming back from the injured list.       Nick Pivetta surrendered five runs while working 3 1/3 innings in a loss Saturday to the Brewers.

      Advice: Pivetta was outstanding while allowing just one hit and one run against the Cardinals on Sunday. He didn’t match that success Saturday. The right-hander allowed seven hits, and he also issued three walks in a start where Pivetta was fine over the first two frames, but gave up five in a disastrous third inning.     • Bailey Ober earns fifth victory for Twins
      Bailey Ober threw five innings of two-run ball for the win as the Twins edged the Rangers 3-2 on Friday.

      Advice: Marcus Semien singled and Corey Seager homered to start the top of the first, but those proved to be the only runs of the night for Texas. Ober wasn’t as efficient as usual in walking three and throwing 99 pitches in five innings tonight, but he got the job done. He’s 5-2 with a 4.33 ERA. Rotoworld Friday, 10:06 pm

    • Strikes out nine in win
      Verlander (3-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits and struck out nine without walking a batter Friday to earn the win over the Athletics.

      Advice: Verlander has alternated quality starts with shorter outings over his seven outings this season, and this was one of his good ones. The nine strikeouts were a season high, and it was just the second time he hasn't walked a batter this year. The 41-year-old has a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB through 40 innings.       Ober (5-2) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win over Texas.

      Advice: Ober coughed up a two-run shot to Corey Seager in the first inning but settled in for a solid outing after that. Despite striking out just five batters, Ober forced a season-high 16 whiffs, including seven with his changeup. He's generated at least 12 swinging strikes in six of his last seven starts.     • Justin Verlander strikes out nine in win over A’s
      Justin Verlander struck out nine while allowing two runs — one earned — over six innings to get a win over the Athletics on Friday.

      Advice: The 41-year-old did allow eight hits, but the only earned run he gave up was a solo homer to J.J. Bleday in the fifth inning. The right-hander had his swing-and-miss stuff going Friday night, and was much more effective than his four-run, 4 2/3 inning start against Milwaukee last weekend.       Ragans (4-3) picked up the win in Wednesday's 8-3 victory over the Tigers, allowing one hit and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out 12.

      Advice: A clash with fellow star southpaw Tarik Skubal brought out the best in Ragans, who fanned a career-high 12 batters and generated a whopping 35 called or swinging strikes among his 100 pitches. The 26-year-old has reeled off 13 straight shutout innings over his last two starts, and he'll take a 3.34 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 76:21 K:BB through 62 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Minnesota.       Advice: Ragans held up his end of the bargain in a highly-anticipated matchup against Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, limiting Detroit’s offense to just one hit and three walks over six shutout frames. The 26-year-old emerging ace generated 15 swinging strikes and a near-elite 35 percent CSW, finishing with a season-high 12 punchouts.       Javier did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's win over the Angels, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out one over four innings.

      Advice: Javier's night got started off on the wrong foot after surrendering a two-run blast to Luis Rengifo in the opening frame. The Angels then got to him for two more runs in the fourth on a trio of hits, which included an RBI-double from Zach Neto. It was a very discouraging performance after Javier put together his best start of the season his previous outing against the A's. After the game, he cited his struggles due to poor mechanics, though he's now given up 11 runs on 13 hits and seven walks while striking out just one batter in 5.1 innings in his two starts surrounding his gem against Oakland.
