      Advice: The right-hander generated an impressive 32 called or swinging strikes among his 81 pitches, but both runs off Pivetta came on solo shots by Josh Lowe and Randy Arozarena, with the latter chasing him from the game one out short of his second quality start of the season. Pivetta has served up five homers in two starts since coming off the IL, a worrisome trend, but he'll carry a 3.48 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 22:2 K:BB through 20.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis.     • Nick Pivetta bounces back with solid effort vs TB
      Nick Pivetta allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rays.

      Advice: Pivetta struck out eight on the day while walking none, but he was doomed by two solo home runs. The right-hander got back on track after his rough return from the IL, posting a 29 percent whiff rate and 40 percent CSW. His sweeper was particularly dominant, getting five whiffs on eight swings and posting a 47 percent CSW. Pivetta also threw his curveball 1.3 mph harder than usual and found some success with it, so that’s something to watch for future starts.       Montgomery allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Monday.

      Advice: Montgomery turned in an okay outing, missing out on a quality start for the second time in five games for the Diamondbacks. He's pitched to a 4.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB over 28.1 innings this season. Montgomery's had a bit of trouble racking up strikeouts so far as he's had to get up to speed on the job after signing with Arizona in late March.       Jordan Montgomery allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings while not qualifying for a decision against the Reds on Monday.

      Advice: Montgomery allowed six hits with three walks, and he was able to strike out seven. He allowed a two-run double in the second inning to Spencer Steer, and the third run came after the southpaw had left the contest on a Mike Ford single. This wasn’t close to the strong outing he had Wednesday against the Reds, but there were some good moments and a few punchouts to help.       Eflin (3-4) earned the win Monday, allowing three runs on six hits while not walking a batter over five innings against the Red Sox. He struck out two.

      Advice: Eflin was able to grind through five innings, tossing 91 pitches to earn the win for the second-consecutive start. After being staked with a three-run lead before ever taking the hill, Eflin allowed a three-run homer to Tyler O'Neill in the bottom of the first that tied the score. Despite the elevated pitch count through five, Eflin managed to keep the Red Sox off the board throughout the remainder of his start and did not allow a free pass in the process. Eflin will carry a 3.91 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into his next start, tentatively slated to take place over the weekend when the Rays travel to Toronto for a three-game set against the division-rival Blue Jays.     • Zach Eflin completes five frames to beat Red Sox
      Zach Eflin gave up three runs over five innings on Monday in a win over the Red Sox.

      Advice: Eflin was tagged for a three-run blast by Tyler O’Neill in the opening frame, but managed to settle in afterwards, keeping Boston’s lineup scoreless for the remainder of his abbreviated outing at Fenway Park. He struck out two and didn’t hand out a free pass for the sixth time in his last seven starts. The 30-year-old control artist will bring a respectable 3.91 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 41/4 K/BB ratio across 53 innings (nine starts) into a road matchup on Saturday against the division-rival Blue Jays.     • Rebounds with seven scoreless
      Verlander (2-1) earned the win after he pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out eight batters in Sunday's 9-3 victory over the Tigers.

      Advice: Verlander was back to being sharp Sunday, limiting Detroit to just four baserunners while recording a season-high eight punchouts. The 41-year-old was coming off of allowing seven runs over five innings against the Yankees on Tuesday, but he rebounded with his third quality start over five outings in 2024. Verlander now owns a 3.38 ERA with 23 strikeouts over 29.1 innings this season, and his next projected start is set to come Friday at home versus the Brewers. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:40 pm

      Ober (4-1) earned the win after he pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out 10 batters in Sunday's 5-1 victory over Toronto.

      Advice: Ober was nearly perfect Sunday, allowing just a single to Vladimir Guerrero in the bottom of the fourth inning, while his 10 punchouts were a season high. The right-hander has now recorded four quality starts over eight outings this season. Since allowing eight runs against the Royals in his season debut, Ober has produced a 2.16 ERA with 44 strikeouts over 41.2 innings in his last seven starts.       Justin Verlander blanked the Tigers for seven innings and struck out eight in the Astros’ 9-3 victory Sunday.

      Advice: Despite never throwing a pitch over 95 mph, Verlander induced eight pop outs and allowed just two hard-hit balls in a masterclass today. It’s the 50th time in his 514 career starts that he’s pitched at least seven innings and gone without allowing a run. Rotoworld Sunday, 3:04 pm
