    • Nolan Jones collects two hits in Rockies’ win
Nolan Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a walk versus the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: The second hit also would have been at least a double, but it hit first base umpire Brian O’Nora on its way down the first base line, resulting in a single. Jones has had issues with strikeouts since coming off the IL last month, but he’s hitting the ball harder than he did in April and drawing a bunch of walks (12 in 15 games). He should prove pretty useful in mixed leagues the rest of the way. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:19 pm

    • Daulton Varsho goes hitless versus Astros
Daulton Varsho went hitless in a seventh consecutive start Monday, finishing 0-for-3 with a walk against the Astros.

Advice: Varsho did get a hit off the bench Saturday, but he’s 1-for-28 with 13 strikeouts since June 19, dropping his average to .197. There’s too much homer and steal potential here to make Varsho droppable in fantasy leagues, but it’s tempting. Of course, he’s especially valuable in 6x6 leagues that include 280-foot flyouts as a category. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:15 pm

    • Records 17th steal Sunday
Rodriguez went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in a loss to the Twins on Sunday.

Advice: Rodriguez's hit was only his second in the last 31 plate appearances, a seven-game span where the talented outfielder has generated an anemic .069 average and .198 OPS. The multi-game skid has temporarily erased a lot of the progress Rodriguez had made after a slow start to the season, as his slash line has dropped to a middling .247/.297/.327. However, there are underlying metrics that suggest Rodriguez is running into some tough luck as well -- he owns an expected batting average and slugging percentage of .272 and .434, respectively, and he's also boasting a career-best 21.7 percent line-drive rate. • Swipes 14th bag
Abrams went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

Advice: The Nationals had only three hits on the afternoon, so while Abrams was busy on the basepaths, his efforts couldn't generate any offense. The 23-year-old shortstop had been slumping heading into June, but he wrapped up the month with a dazzling .373/.464/.663 slash line in 97 plate appearances, adding four of his 13 homers on the season and six of his 14 steals. • Justin Verlander has started playing catch
Astros general manager Dana Brown said Justin Verlander (neck) has resumed playing catch.

Advice: The 41-year-old has been on the injured list since the middle of June with a neck issue, and the Astros have been tight-lipped about his recovery. According to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome, “Verlander has deferred all questions to the team, which remains insistent this injury is just a neck issue,” but the team has said that he’ll need a prolonged buildup and then at least one rehab start, which means a return before the All-Star break feels unlikely. • Hits for cycle in blowout win
Langford hit for the cycle in Sunday's 11-2 win over the Orioles, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored.

Advice: Langford made history with the first cycle of the 2024 MLB season Sunday night. He flew out his first time up and then took off from there, tripling in the fourth and then later completing things with a three-run blast in his final at-bat of the evening in the eighth. Langford is putting together quite the rookie campaign despite the season struggles from the Rangers. He became the first rookie in MLB history with a cycle, a grand slam and an inside-the-park home run in a season. He also became the first Rangers rookie to hit for a cycle since 1985. Langford caps off a productive month of June, during which he slashed .309/.368/.526 with three homers, 22 RBI, 11 runs, six steals and an 8:17 BB:K in 106 plate appearances. • Ryan Mountcastle sits due to illness
Ryan Mountcastle didn’t play Sunday because he was ill, according to manager Brandon Hyde.

Advice: Mountcastle also didn’t play Saturday, but since he occasionally sits against right-handers, that went without any explanation. That he was absent tonight against a lefty demanded one. There was no additional comment about whether the Orioles expected him to return Tuesday. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:31 pm

    • Dealing with illness
Mountcastle was unavailable for Sunday's 11-2 loss to the Rangers due to an illness, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Mountcastle's absence from the lineup was a surprising one Sunday considering his impressive .306/.359/.494 slash line against left-handed pitchers this season, but manager Brandon Hyde clarified after the contest that Mountcastle was feeling under the weather. With Baltimore off Monday, there's a good chance that Mountcastle will be ready to go for the team's series opener in Seattle on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:20 pm

    • Wyatt Langford hits for cycle in rout of Orioles
Wyatt Langford hit for the cycle and drove in four runs as the Rangers bested the Orioles 11-2 on Sunday.

Advice: Langford had just 14 extra-base hits in 59 games this season before coming up with three tonight. The homer, his fourth, came in his fifth and final at-bat of the night. It caps off a fine June for Langford in which he hit .283/.347/.446 with two homers, 18 RBI and six steals in 25 games. Things will likely only keep getting better from here. Rotoworld Sunday, 7:16 pm
