    • Tyler Wells undergoes season-ending elbow surgery
Tyler Wells had successful right elbow revision ulnar collateral ligament surgery with UCL repair and internal brace augmentation on Monday.

Advice: The internal brace gives him a better chance of returning next summer, but a 2026 return still might be the most likely scenario here. The Orioles figure to pay the $2 million or so necessary to keep him around next year in the hopes that it will pay off down the road. Rotoworld Today, 1:57 pm

    • Could start Friday
Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed that Rodriguez (back) has returned to Toronto and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday in Cleveland, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Rodriguez wrapped up his six-start rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, when he struck out seven while allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over three innings. He tossed 79 pitches in the outing and should be built up enough to handle a traditional starter's workload, if the Blue Jays want to give it to him. Before Rodriguez landed on the IL on April 30 with thoracic spine inflammation, the Blue Jays had been managing his usage carefully, as he worked between three and four innings in each of his four starts. Should Toronto elect to manage Rodriguez's workload again if he starts Friday, he could be deployed as part of a tandem with Bowden Francis, who had most recently served as a bulk reliever when the No. 5 spot in the rotation came up. • Throws bullpen session
DeGrom (elbow) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The session contained only fastballs and marked the first time deGrom has thrown off a mound since he underwent Tommy John surgery last June. Everything went according to plan, and deGrom will continue to the ramp-up process as he eyes a return from the 60-day injured list sometime in the second half of the season. • Jacob deGrom (elbow) throws off mound
Jacob deGrom threw off a mound Monday for the first time since Tommy John surgery last June.

Advice: DeGrom was limited to fastballs today, but it’s still a big step. He’s still several weeks away from beginning a rehab assignment. Rotoworld Today, 1:38 pm

    • Yariel Rodríguez likely to make weekend start
Yariel Rodríguez, on the IL with thoracic spine inflammation, has joined the Blue Jays and could start this weekend versus the Guardians.

Advice: The Jays considered starting Rodríguez last weekend, but they had him pitch in Triple-A instead and he allowed two runs over three innings, striking out seven in the process. His six rehab starts for Buffalo covered a total of 14 innings in which he walked 10 and struck out 23. He might be able to help the Jays, but unless they use an opener in front of him, it’s hard to see how he’d be any sort of candidate for wins. Rotoworld Today, 1:20 pm

    • Daulton Jefferies back up with Pirates
Pirates recalled RHP Daulton Jeffries from Triple-A Indianapolis

Advice: Jefferies had poor results in two starts for the Giants this season and was traded to the Pirates back on May 10th. In five starts for the Pirates in Triple-A, he has a 6.10 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. He doesn’t figure to be used as a traditional starter for the Pirates and should remain off fantasy radars. Justin Bruihl was sent down in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Today, 12:46 pm
    • Michael Wacha will begin a rehab assignment
Royals RHP Michael Wacha (foot) will begin a rehab assignment on Monday in the Arizona Complex League.

Advice: Wacha was hit in the foot by a comebacker on May 31st and was placed on the IL with a fracture a couple of days later. He threw a three-inning simulated game last Thursday and reported no issues, so he’ll step up to a short rehab start and continue to work his way back from there. Provided his foot responds well to this start, he could quickly move through the rehab process. Rotoworld Today, 12:36 pm
    • Back in big leagues
The Pirates recalled Jefferies from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday.

Advice: Jefferies has been bludgeoned for 13 runs (nine earned) over 4.2 innings covering one start and one relief appearance in the majors this season, both of which came with the Giants. He's headed to the Pittsburgh bullpen, where he will provide length. Rotowire.com Today, 12:33 pm
    • Gerrit Cole officially starting on Wednesday
According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Gerrit Cole will make his season debut on Wednesday against the Orioles

Advice: It always seemed likely that the Yankees would bring Cole back to face the Orioles, and we now know that will be the case. Cole has looked good during his rehab starts and was up to 70 pitches in his last outing, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go at least 80 pitches on Wednesday night if the results allow. This also means the end of Cody Poteet in the Yankees’ rotation for now. Rotoworld Today, 12:25 pm
