    • Marcell Ozuna slugs two-run homer in win Saturday
Marcell Ozuna slugged a two-run homer in the opening inning on Saturday, helping to power the Braves to victory over the Phillies.

Advice: Ozuna tattooed a first-pitch curveball from Ranger Suárez for a 414-foot (106.0 mph EV) two-run shot that increased the Braves’ early edge to 3-0 and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He also smacked a double in the ballgame, finishing the night 2-for-4. On the season, the 33-year-old slugger is now hitting .298/.379/.571 with 23 homers and 72 RBI on the season. • Gore allows five runs in no-decision Saturday
Mackenzie Gore allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Nationals’ 14-6 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Advice: Gore gave up six hits, walked five and struck out five. The Nationals led 9-0 after two innings and Gore still couldn’t complete the necessary five innings to get the win. He’s allowed five runs in two of his last three starts and has a 3.83 ERA on the year. The 25-year-old left-hander is set to face the Mets on the road next week.

    • Throws 21 pitches Saturday
Bednar (oblique) threw 21 pitches in a live batting practice Saturday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Bednar utilized all three of his pitches in Saturday's session as he faced live batters for the first time in his rehab program. It's another positive step for the 29-year-old as he works his way back from a left oblique strain. Bednar appeared in 34 games before landing on the injured list June 23, earning 16 saves with a 5.17 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 32:7 K:BB across 31.1 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 12:55 pm

    • David Bednar (oblique) faces hitters on Saturday
David Bednar (oblique) faced hitters on Saturday in a 20-pitch live batting practice session.

Advice: Bednar resumed playing catch earlier this week and continues to progress towards a return to Pittsburgh’s bullpen after hitting the injured list back in late June with a left oblique strain. There isn’t an official return timetable yet, but it seems possible he could head out on a minor league rehab assignment soon and return in a couple week after the All-Star break, barring any setbacks. • Clubs 22nd homer
Ozuna went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's loss to the Phillies.

Advice: The veteran slugger got hold of a 98.4 mph two-seamer from Jose Alvarado in the eighth inning, driving it 409 feet over the fence in right field. Ozuna snapped an 11-game homer drought with the blast -- tied for his longest dry spell of the year -- and while he has slowed down after a blistering start to the season, he's still slashing .296/.377/.560 through 86 contests with 22 homers and 70 RBI, with the latter mark tying him for the NL lead with Alec Bohm. • Ben Brown (neck) making gradual progress
Ben Brown (neck) is scheduled to play catch on Saturday.

Advice: Brown hit the injured list back in mid-June with a neck strain and has been slowly progressing towards a return to Chicago’s starting rotation. There isn’t a definitive timetable yet, but the fact that he’s been throwing for at least a week now without any setbacks is an encouraging sign. Rotoworld Today, 8:31 am

    • Javier Assad (forearm) completes bullpen session
Javier Assad (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Friday.

Advice: Assad landed on the injured list last week with a right forearm strain, so it’s an extremely encouraging sign that he came out of Friday’s side session without any issues. The 26-year-old righty might be able to jump right back into Chicago’s starting rotation mix without requiring a minor league rehab assignment. Rotoworld Today, 8:29 am

    • Collects eighth save
Kopech gave up a run on two hits and a walk over 1.1 innings Friday to record his eighth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Marlins. He struck out one.

Advice: With two on and two outs in the ninth inning, Kopech gave up an RBI single to Bryan De La Cruz, but he then got Josh Bell to ground out to escape the jam. Kopech isn't exactly locked in right now, stumbling to a 6.91 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB over his last 14.1 innings while blowing three of six save chances, but the White Sox seem content to deploy him at the team's closer for now, perhaps in an effort to increase his trade value. • Swipes 43rd bag
De La Cruz went 1-for-2 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers.

Advice: It marked the first time since June 16 that the 22-year-old drew multiple free passes, while the stolen base was his league-leading 43rd of the year -- 15 ahead of second-place Brice Turang. De La Cruz can be streaky, but he's red hot right now, slashing .352/.417/.704 over his last 13 games with 10 extra-base hits (four doubles, three triples and three homers), six steals, eight RBI and 13 runs.
