    • Could return during Padres series
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Bellinger (ribs) could be activated from the 10-day injured list at some point during the team's current series versus the Padres, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Bellinger did some hitting and defensive work Monday, and Counsell noted that the outfielder won't require a rehab assignment before returning from the IL. His activation would appear to be imminent, though Bellinger won't be available for Monday's series opener. Bellinger has been on the shelf for nearly two weeks with a fracture in his right ribcage, resulting in Pete Crow-Armstrong taking hold of an everyday role in center field. • Activated ahead of Monday's start
The Cubs activated Steele (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Monday against the Padres at Wrigley Field.

Advice: Steele will rejoin the rotation Monday after being sidelined since straining his left hamstring Opening Day. The left-hander threw just 63 pitches in his lone rehab outing, so he'll likely have his workload curtailed Monday to some degree. Rotowire.com Today, 2:19 pm
    • Cubs activate Steele (hamstring) for start Monday
Cubs activated Justin Steele off the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Steele is off the IL and will be the starter for the Cubs on Monday against the Royals. The left-hander made one rehab start while recovering from his hamstring trouble, but he should be stretched out enough to provide fantasy value in the coming weeks. Rotoworld Today, 1:46 pm
    • Report: Royals reached out to ask for Arraez
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the Royals contacted the Marlins last week to discuss trading for Luis Arraez before the infielder was dealt to the Padres

Advice: Rosenthal was quick to note that those talks “never advanced beyond the preliminary stage"; however, it’s interesting that the Royals even made the phone call because it tells us that the team is looking to capitalize on their fast start to the season which sees them just 2.5 games behind the Guardians in the AL Central. However, another interesting aspect of this is where the Royals may be looking to upgrade. Michael Massey has been pretty good at second base since coming off the IL and Vinnie Pasquantino is locked in at first base, so the Royals must have felt that Arraez could fill the DH spot, which means either Nelson Velazquez or Hunter Renfroe could be on notice in the midst of a slow start to the season. • Swats homer Sunday
Judge went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double and a walk in Sunday's 5-2 victory versus Detroit.

Advice: A day after he was ejected from a game for the first time in his career, Judge belted a solo shot off Tarik Skubal in his first at-bat of the contest. The slugger added a sixth-inning double to notch just his second game with multiple extra-base hits this season. Judge is still slashing a meager .220/.350/.439 on the campaign, but he's batting .355 with three of his seven homers and seven of his 20 RBI over his past nine games. • Three straight multi-hit games
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI on Sunday against the Mets.

Advice: Diaz is hitting just .235 across his 150 plate appearances of the season, though his results have begun to turn around of late. Sunday marked his third straight start with two hits, and he also has a double, four RBI and a run scored in that span. Diaz has only two barrels in 114 batted ball events to begin the season, though he should continue to see hits fall in at an increased clip as he's maintained a 15.3 percent strikeout rate -- in line with his career norm. • Expected to return Monday
Burger (oblique) joined the Marlins in Los Angeles and is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Monday's series opener versus the Dodgers, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

Advice: On the shelf since April 15 with a left intercostal strain, Burger looks to have checked out fine after completing the final phase of his recovery process this past week, when he joined Triple-A Jacksonville for a rehab assignment. He played in three games for Jacksonville, going 3-for-11 with two runs, two walks and one RBI in addition to playing nine innings at first base and 18 innings at third base. Once activated, Burger should immediately settle back in as the Marlins' everyday option at the hot corner, resulting in Vidal Brujan and Emmanuel Rivera losing out on playing time. • Collects first hit
Grissom went 1-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 9-2 win over Minnesota.

Advice: With Boston leading, 3-1, in the eighth inning, Grissom unloaded on a cutter from Kody Funderburk, driving it the opposite way for a two-run double. It was the first hit in a Red Sox uniform for Grissom, who was activated Friday after opening the season on the injured list. Rotowire.com Today, 6:29 am

    • MLB updates ruling Friday
MLB changed the official scoring on a play during Friday's game, which left Houck charged with three earned runs over six-plus innings, not four, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: A fielder's choice in the seventh inning was updated to a throwing error by catcher Reese McGuire. The ruling drops Houck's season ERA to 1.99 and gives him a sixth quality start. Rotowire.com Today, 6:21 am
