    • Down in five spot Friday
Machado will start at third base and bat fifth in Friday's game in Atlanta.

Advice: It's only the second time over the past nine seasons that Machado has batted lower than cleanup. The 31-year-old is in the middle of a 2-for-30 stretch at the plate to drop his season batting line to .222/.276/.346. Rotowire.com Today, 1:10 pm
    • Notches three extra-base hits
Duran went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a solo home run and an additional run scored during Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Duran provided plenty of pop from the leadoff position Thursday, swatting his second homer of 2024 and generating two doubles for a second straight game. The contest was Duran's fourth game with at least three hits this season. The center fielder finished the four-game series against Tampa Bay 6-for-15 (.400) with three runs scored and five extra-base hits. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:10 pm

    • Freddie Freeman collects two hits, scores run in loss
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk against the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: Freeman drew a walk in the third inning, then knocked a base hit in the fifth. He reached for a third time with a single to lead off the eighth and came around to score on a single and a sacrifice fly. The 34-year-old first baseman is hitting .297/.408/.455 with four homers, 26 runs scored, 24 RBI, and one steal across 201 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:15 pm

    • Joe Musgrove (triceps) could start on Sunday
Joe Musgrove (triceps) is hopeful he’ll return from the injured list to start on Sunday against the Braves.

Advice: That’s certainly surprising. Musgrove landed on the injured list on May 5 due to triceps tendinitis and hasn’t really done much except play catch since then. You would think that he would need to ramp back up a bit and require a minor league rehab start before jumping right back into the swing of things — and perhaps he may — but this sounds like he’s much closer to a return than most had anticipated. • Eyeing Sunday return
Musgrove (elbow) could return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game in Atlanta, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Dylan Cease is available to pitch Sunday on his normal four days' rest, but the Padres appear to be leaving the door open for Musgrove to return Sunday if he comes out of his bullpen session Wednesday no worse for the wear. Randy Vasquez has stepped in to fill the vacancy in the rotation since Musgrove was placed on the IL on May 5 with elbow inflammation. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:35 pm

    • Retreating to bench
Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Rosario will head to the bench after he had started in each of the previous four games while seeing time at three different spots in the infield (second base, third base and shortstop). Though the right-handed-hitting Rosario should remain a mainstay in the lineup versus lefties, his opportunities to play against right-handed pitching could be more limited moving forward after the Rays activated the lefty-hitting Jonathan Aranda from the injured list Tuesday. • Back on bench Wednesday
Merrifield is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: With Bryce Harper (migraine) and Kyle Schwarber (back) both missing time in recent days, Merrifield was one of the main beneficiaries. He started in seven of the previous eight games while manning three different positions, but Merrifield provided just three hits over 32 at-bats over that stretch to bring his batting average down to .188. Both Harper and Schwarber are simultaneously in the lineup for the first time since last Friday, so Merrifield will retreat to the bench and will most likely be in store for a reduction in playing time moving forward. • Makes return to lineup
Realmuto (knee) will start at catcher and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Realmuto will re-enter the starting nine after sitting out each of the past three games while managing a sore right knee. Provided he doesn't experience any setbacks in his return to action, Realmuto should resume handling one of the heftier workloads in the league among No. 1 catchers, though it wouldn't be surprising if the Phillies gave him a breather later this week or had him serve as a designated hitter for a game. • J.T. Realmuto returns from sore knee
J.T. Realmuto is back in the Phillies lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Mets.

Advice: He’s catching and batting second tonight after missing the last three games with knee soreness. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:05 pm
