    • Anthony Volpe aims to extend hitting streak to 22
Anthony Volpe will carry a 21-game hitting streak into Thursday’s series finale against the Angels.

Advice: Volpe can surpass Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte for the longest hitting streak in the majors this season with another knock during Thursday’s series finale in Los Angeles. The 23-year-old shortstop’s offseason overhaul to his swing and offensive approach have resulted in a robust .288 batting average to go along with six homers and 11 stolen bases. He’s recorded at least one hit in 21 straight contests since May 7. He’s a long way from Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game streak, but it’s an interesting wrinkle for fantasy managers to continue monitoring. • Jackson Merrill returns to lineup after day off
Jackson Merrill is back in center field Wednesday after getting the day off against a lefty on Tuesday.

Advice: The Padres are again facing a lefty, but Merrill has been starting against most of them, even though he’s hitting just .233/.261/.233 in 46 plate appearances against them. He’s also 7-for-35 with no extra-base hits or walks in his last eight games overall. Rotoworld Wednesday, 10:25 am

    • Getting breather versus lefty
Merrill isn't in the Padres' lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.

Advice: The left-handed bat of Merrill will step out of the lineup Tuesday as the Marlins prepare to send Jesus Luzardo to the mound. Jose Azocar will fill the void in center field and bat eighth while Merrill sits. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 3:21 pm

    • Hitting streak reaches 19
Volpe went 1-for-3 with a walk, a steal and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Padres.

Advice: Volpe extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a single in the sixth inning. He would then steal second and come around to score off a Juan Soto double to open up the scoring and force Joe Musgrove out of the game. His hit streak is the longest by a Yankee since Derek Jeter in 2012. Volpe is currently tied for sixth in the American League with 61 hits and tied for fifth with 11 steals. The 23-year-old has been thriving in the leadoff spot for the majority of the season and is now slashing .282/.355/.435 with 18 extra-base hits, 23 RBI, 36 runs and a 22:52 BB:K in 244 plate appearances. • On bench Friday
Hernandez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Hernandez will take a seat after making six consecutive appearances. Miguel Rojas will man third base and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:12 pm

    • Reaches double-digit steals
Volpe went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and a stolen base against the Mariners in Thursday's 5-0 victory.

Advice: Volpe led off the seventh inning with a double, stole third base and subsequently scored on a Juan Soto single. It was the 10th theft in 12 tries for Volpe, who has now reached double-digit steals in each of his first two MLB campaigns. The shortstop is on pace to exceed last year's numbers in most categories except power -- he has six homers through 51 contests after going deep 21 times in 159 games last season -- and his .278/.349/.429 slash line highlights his substantial growth at the plate.
