    Advice: Spence was victimized by Kansas City catcher Freddy Fermin, who who belted a pair of solo homers against him. However, Spence fared well against the remainder of the Royals lineup and finished with his second quality start of the campaign despite the two long balls he surrendered. Spence's seven strikeouts Thursday were a career-best mark and well above his season norm -- he entered the contest with either three of four punchouts in each of his previous six outings.     Ohtani went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in Thursday's 5-3 win against the Rockies.

    Advice: Ohtani began the game with a solo shot to center field for the seventh leadoff home run of his career. The superstar slugger has racked up four homers over his past five contests and has notched nine RBI during that span.     Blach (3-5) allowed five runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out two batters over four innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Thursday.

    Advice: Blach was hit hard in the start -- five of the 10 hits he allowed, including three homers, went for extra bases. It was the first time this season he's served up three homers in an outing, and the five runs he allowed were the second-most he's surrendered in a start this season.   • Adam Mazur surrenders three runs to Brewers
    Adam Mazur was lifted after allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Brewers.

    Bryse Wilson surrendered five runs in 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Padres.

    Advice: Wilson was supposed to lose this one, but the Padres let him off the hook in the top of the ninth, only to succumb in the bottom of the inning. The Brewers and everyone else know that Wilson belongs in middle relief, and the team might eventually get back to the point at which that is feasible.     Flexen allowed one run on five hits and three walks while striking out six batters over six innings in a no-decision against Houston on Thursday.

    Advice: This was a nice bounce-back for Flexen after he allowed six runs (four earned) over 3.1 innings against Arizona in his previous start. The right-hander completed six frames Thursday for the first time since early May and finished with just his third quality start of the season.     Arrighetti allowed three runs on five hits and and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Thursday.

    Advice: Arrighetti navigated through four scoreless innings despite allowing at least one baserunner in each of those frames. The rookie's tightrope act came to an end in the fifth, however, as the White Sox put four runners on base (on three hits and a walk) before he could get his second out. Arrighetti has now completed fewer than five frames in three of his past four starts, and walks have been a major issue for him, as he's issued 12 free passes over 14.1 innings during that span.   • Andre Pallante allows five runs, still gets win
    Andre Pallante was charged with five runs over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Giants.

    Advice: Pallante drew the starting assignment for Thursday’s contest at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and gave the Cardinals some much-needed length in this outing, working into the sixth inning. He struck out five and also issued three walks. Of the seven hits he allowed, the costliest was a three-run shot to Heliot Ramos in the third inning, which accounted for most of the damage against him.     Woods Richardson did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings against the Rays. He struck out six.

    Advice: Woods Richardson allowed single runs in the second and third, keeping the Rays at bay as he completed six innings for his fourth quality start of the season. It was also the ninth time in 12 starts that Woods Richardson left with a no-decision. It was the third time in four outings that Woods Richardson struck out six batters, including a couple of big strikeouts to end the fourth and fifth innings, each coming with runners in scoring position to keep the game tied. Woods Richardson has been solid throughout his first full season in the majors, tallying a 3.26 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 12 starts with 52 strikeouts over 60.2 innings.
