  • Acuña hits game-tying homer, but Atlanta falls to LAD
    Ronald Acuña hit a solo homer while going 2-for-5 in an extra-inning loss to the Dodgers on Friday.

    Advice: Acuña Jr. hasn’t shown a ton of power in the early portion of the season, but he came through in a big way with a game-tying homer in the eighth off Daniel Hudson in the eighth. That’s just the second roundtripper of the season for the reigning MVP, but it’s hard to fathom the power isn’t going to come from a player that swatted 41 homers in 2023.   • Yields three runs
    Blanco allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out six during the win over Seattle.

    Advice: All the damage against Blanco came via the long ball, with Jorge Polanco going deep in the third inning followed by Dylan Moore in the fifth. Entering Friday's start, Blanco had given up just two homers through 32.2 frames. It was the first time this season he's allowed more than two runs in an outing but he did produce his fifth quality start. Blanco owns a terrific 2.09 ERA with a 36:16 K:BB.   • Ronel Blanco allows three over six against Seattle
    Ronel Blanco was charged for three runs over six innings Friday in a no-decision against the Mariners.

    Advice: He gave up five hits while walking three and striking out six. Blanco gave up a pair of homers Friday, one of them being a solo shot by Jorge Polanco and the other a two-run homer by Dylan Moore. The right-hander exited with a 3-1 deficit, but the Astros were able to score four after he left to keep him off the hook.   • Jason Foley implodes in ninth inning on Friday
    Jason Foley suffered a brutal blown save against the Yankees on Friday night, surrendering hits to all four batters that he faced.

    Advice: Yikes. In what was a terrific pitcher’s duel that had the Tigers leading 1-0 heading to the ninth inning, Foley immediately got off on the wrong foot by allowing a leadoff single to Aaron Judge. Alex Verdugo then dropped down a bunt single with third baseman Zach McKinstry playing back, setting the stage for Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton then ripped an RBI double into right field on the second pitch he saw, and Anthony Rizzo followed with a run-scoring single to walk it off. Foley is probably still fine in the ninth inning, as he has converted nine of his first 10 save chances, though his 1.54 WHIP leads much to be desired. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:13 pm
     
  • Paul Sewald (oblique) expected to return Tuesday
    Paul Sewald (oblique) is expected to be activated from the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Reds.

    Advice: The 33-year-old right-hander has been shelved since the end of March due to a left oblique strain, but is finally ready to make his mark on the 2024 season.   • Could return for road trip
    Diamondbacks manager Torrey Lovullo said Friday that Sewald (oblique) is expected back Tuesday for Arizona's road trip, John Gambadoro of ArizonaSports.com reports.

    Advice: Sewald's rehab program was paused after the right-hander experienced soreness from his appearance with Triple-A Reno earlier this week. He returned to action with a bullpen session Wednesday, and the right-hander is slated to pitch in an extended game Saturday, per Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com. If all goes well, Sewald could be back with the team as soon as Tuesday in Cincinnati.     Bassitt (2-5) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk over six innings as the Blue Jays fell 6-1 to the Royals. He struck out four.

    Advice: The veteran righty took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but a leadoff double by Kyle Isbel kicked off a three-run frame for Kansas City, and with Seth Lugo also pitching extremely well, Bassitt had no margin for error. He tossed 62 of 92 pitches for strikes in his third quality start of the season, but Bassitt will carry a shaky 5.45 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 34:18 K:BB through 36.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Philadelphia.     Clase earned the save over the Astros on Wednesday, striking out one over a perfect 10th inning.

    Advice: Clase entered the contest with a one-run lead in the bottom of the 10th and needed only five pitches to retire the side and secure his ninth save of the season. The right-hander has now converted each of his last five save attempts (over nine appearances), posting a 10:1 K:BB over that stretch.
