  • Swipes bag Sunday
    Melendez went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Rangers.

    Advice: This was Melendez's first multi-hit effort since April 19 -- he went 2-for-36 over the previous 12 contests. The 25-year-old started the year hot, batting .325 over his first 12 games, but he's since returned to his career norms. He's slashing a poor .186/.252/.363 with four home runs, two steals, 12 RBI, nine runs scored and six doubles over 111 plate appearances. Despite the poor batting, Melendez is still seeing a majority of the playing time in left field, keeping Nelson Velazquez at designated hitter and Dairon Blanco on the bench.     Advice: Crochet was able to make it back-to-back strong outings Sunday, limiting the Cardinals to just one run on a fourth-inning solo home run by Willson Contreras. The left-hander secured his first quality start since April 3 in the win and he has now allowed just three runs over 11 innings in his last two outings.     Garrett Crochet picked up his second victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, striking out six batters over six innings of one-run baseball against the Cardinals.

    Advice: The 24-year-old southpaw scattered just three hits on the afternoon and didn’t walk a batter. The lone blemish on his day came on a solo blast off the bat of Willson Contreras in the fourth inning. Aside from that, he was brilliant. Crochet generated eight swings and misses on 88 pitches on the day — four of those on his cutter — while posting a CSW of 28 percent.   • Roberts hopeful for minimum IL stint for Phillips
    Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Sunday that the team is hopeful that Evan Phillips (hamstring) will only have a minimum stay on the injured list.

    Advice: Phillips was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain and placed on the injured list before Sunday’s game against Atlanta. The right-hander will miss at least two weeks, but it doesn’t sound like a (relatively) long-term injury for the 29-year-old closer.     The Dodgers placed Phillips on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right hamstring strain, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

    Advice: The right-hander presumably suffered the injury during Friday's appearance against Atlanta, when he struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning amid a 2-2 tie. Manager Dave Roberts said Phillips' injury is a Grade 1 strain, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports, so the absence may not be a lengthy one. The star outfielder would collect two more hits on the night, though his effort fell short as the Dodgers ran away with the win. Acuna has now tallied multiple hits in three straight games to open the month, though he's still sitting on just two home runs for the season.
