    • Carlos Estévez strikes out two for 15th save
Carlos Estévez struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his 15th save Tuesday against the A’s.

Advice: Estévez came up one batter shy of completing a closer’s perfect game; he’d retired 26 straight over nine outings before giving up a single to Tyler Soderstrom tonight. He then struck out Shea Langerhans to end the game. His ERA has dropped from 5.06 ERA to 3.24 during this nearly perfect stretch. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:38 pm
    • Mitch Spence gives up six runs to Angels in loss
Mitch Spence was tagged for six runs in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Angels.

Advice: Spence has strictly alternated good and bad outings in eight starts since joining the A’s rotation, so if you like to put any stock in that kind of thing, he could bounce back while facing the Angels again next time out. We’d continue to shy away, though. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:38 pm

    • Takes hard-luck loss
Hendricks (1-5) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over seven innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Giants.

Advice: Hendricks has faced the Giants in each of his two starts since returning to the rotation. He's limited them to three runs over 12.2 innings with a 12:2 K:BB, but he's gone 1-1 in those outings. It's still a positive sign after his awful start to the campaign landed him a demotion to the bullpen, where he surrendered five runs over 14.1 innings across five appearances. He's now at a 6.87 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 43:17 K:BB over 57.2 innings through 14 appearances (nine starts) this year. Hendricks is tentatively projected to make his next start at home in a tough matchup against the Phillies. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:33 pm
    • Awarded win Tuesday
Rogers (1-2) pitched a perfect inning and was awarded the win Tuesday over the Cubs.

Advice: The Giants led from the second inning on during the bullpen game. Rogers was the first reliever to post a clean outing, and the official scorer handed him his first win of the campaign. Aside from a June 18 three-run meltdown versus these same Cubs in Chicago, Rogers has had a good month. He's kept runs off the board in his other 10 appearances while adding four holds in a setup role. For the season, he's at a 2.92 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 27:2 K:BB with a save, 12 holds and a blown save across 37 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:26 pm
    • Strikes out five as opener
Rodriguez allowed a run on one hit and two walks while striking out five over 2.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Tuesday.

Advice: Rodriguez made his first career start and had the most work of the Giants' six pitchers in the contest, though he was never going to pitch deep enough to have a chance at the win. He's given up 11 runs over 14.1 innings in June, but he has a 15:4 K:BB in that span that suggests he's got a skill set that can keep him in the majors. For the year, he's at a 4.70 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 30.2 innings through 19 appearances. With the Giants' rotation unlikely to gain reinforcements until July, Rodriguez may see a few more opener assignments over the next couple of weeks if manager Bob Melvin opts to protect the pitchers the team has called up to plug holes. • Cubs to start Hayden Wesneski on Wednesday
The Cubs will have Hayden Wesneski start Wednesday against the Giants.

Advice: It’ll be Hayden versus Hayden (Birdsong, the Giants’ pitcher making his MLB debut). Wesneski hasn’t thrown more than two innings since May 13, so this won’t be a particularly long start, especially if he doesn’t perform better than he has lately; he’s given up six runs and four homers over 7 1/3 innings in his last six appearances. • Robert Suarez picks up 20th save for Padres
Robert Suarez recorded his 20th save after allowing an unearned run in the ninth Tuesday against the Nationals.

Advice: When Suarez fanned Ildemaro Vargas to begin the ninth, it was actually the Padres’ first strikeout of the night. Suarez went on to allow a run on an error and a single before getting Lane Thomas to pop out to end the game. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:13 pm
    • Converts 10th save
Sewald allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Twins.

Advice: Sewald needed 17 pitches (nine strikes) to close out this contest, earning his 10th save in as many chances this year. He's on a 13.2-inning scoreless streak -- the only run he's allowed this year came in his season debut after he started the year on the injured list. Sewald has maintained a stellar 0.61 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 14.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:00 pm

    • Set to throw bullpen session
Topa (left patellar tear) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session next week, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Advice: The right-hander was diagnosed with a small tear in the patellar tendon of his left knee in mid-May. It's his first sign of progress since the injury and he likely has several more weeks of throwing before he can begin a rehab assignment. He could return in late July if all goes well.
