    • Perez has two-hit game in win Thursday
      Salvador Perez went 2-for-3 against the Guardians on Thursday.

      Advice: Perez has hit safely in four consecutive games. He’s seen his average drop from .321 at the end of May to .283. The Royals lineup desperately needs his bat to wake up again.     • Westburg hits two-run double in route over Rangers
      Jordan Westburg went 1-for-4 with a two-run double against the Rangers on Thursday.



      Advice: Westburg was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple, but still drove in two runs to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The 25-year-old infielder is hitting .286 with an .854 OPS and 48 RBI on the season.

    • Burnes picks up ninth win in route Thursday
      Corbin Burnes allowed one run in seven innings and got the win in the Orioles’ 11-2 victory over the Rangers on Monday.



      Advice: Burnes gave up nine hits, walked none and struck out five. The win was his ninth of the year. Burnes was on cruise control in this one. Despite the nine hits, he allowed just one run on a solo home run off the bat of Adolis Garcia. Burnes lowered his ERA to 2.28 in the process. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mariners on the road next week.

    • George Kirby changed his curve grip in last start
      George Kirby debuted a new curveball grip in Tuesday’s start, making the change “on the fly” before the game.

      Advice: Kirby didn’t like how his curveball was performing against right-handed batters this season, so he decided to try a new grip before Tuesday’s start in order to “find something that has a little more depth and [he] can stay on the plate with it.” It seemed to work on Tuesday as Kirby threw just six curveballs but got five swings and two whiffs. The other swings resulted in foul balls and one groundout. Kirby mentioned that it’s a grip he’s used in the past and one he knows Zac Gallen uses. “I throw it a little bit harder, but it just kind of eliminates the horizontal movement, which, especially to righties, I kind of had a hard time with.” After a successful first attempt at the new grip, the modification may stay around, giving Kirby a little more fantasy upside in what is already a good season.       Jones isn't listed among the Pirates' probable starting pitchers for this weekend's series in Atlanta, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

      Advice: Jones will thus go the entire week without making a start, much to the chagrin of fantasy managers in weekly leagues who chose to keep him active. Gorman notes that general manager Ben Cherington has previously said that while the Pirates don't intend to shut Jones or fellow rookie phenom Paul Skenes down at any point this season, both pitchers will have their respective workloads managed to some degree as the campaign unfolds. Jones isn't dealing with any sort of injury, so the Pirates appear to have simply chosen this week as an opportunity to build in more recovery for the right-hander, who has logged 86 innings through his first 15 big-league starts.       Doval picked up the save over the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing one hit over a scoreless ninth inning while striking out one.

      Advice: Doval entered the contest with a one-run lead in the ninth and surrendered a leadoff single to Dansby Swanson before retiring the next three batters in succession to secure his 14th save of the campaign. The right-hander has now converted each of his last five save attempts and has allowed only one baserunner over his last three appearances.     • Camilo Doval locks down 14th save vs. Cubs
      Camilo Doval struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save against the Cubs on Wednesday.

      Advice: Doval was summoned to close out the game with a one-run lead in the ninth inning. He gave up a leadoff single, but stranded the runner with a strikeout, fly out, and a groundout to secure the win and lock down his 14th save. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:15 pm
       
    • Brent Rooker doubles in loss
      Brent Rooker went 2-for-4 with a double on Wednesday against the Angels.

      Advice: The Athletics keep losing, but Rooker keeps hitting. The double was his 32nd extra-base hit of the season and his OPS has climbed up to .845, 20th in the league among qualified players.     • Lane Thomas plates two runs in loss to Padres
      Lane Thomas smacked a two-run double, drew a pair of walks and scored a run on Wednesday as the Nationals fell to the Padres in San Diego.

      Advice: Thomas finally broke through and got the Nationals on the board with a two-run double off of Tom Cosgrove in the ninth inning. He scored later in the frame on a two-run double by Luis Garcia, but the five-run rally in the ninth still fell short. The 28-year-old outfielder was also cut down attempting to steal second base in the ballgame. He finished the afternoon 1-for-2 and is now hitting .243/.302/.431 to go with eight homers, 34 RBI and 17 stolen bases (in 23 attempts) on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:46 pm
