      Garrett Crochet allows three runs in four innings against the Marlins on Saturday.

      Advice: Much has been made of Crochet being on a limited pitch count in his first year as a starter, but he likely wouldn’t have gone deep even without said limit. On top of giving up his three runs, he needed 93 pitches to get through those four innings while walking three and striking out five. Crochet has been a heck of a find in 2024, but there’s likely to be an awful lot of three-to-five inning starts in the second half of the campaign. Keep that risk in mind.       White Sox manager Pedro Grifol told reporters Saturday that Garrett Crochet will likely have a limited pitch count in his final start prior to the All-Star break.

      Advice: Crochet has been the biggest name floated as a possible trade candidate in the coming weeks and it’s going to take a considerable haul to meet Chicago’s asking price. The 25-year-old southpaw has managed to stay healthy and finally put everything together in a stellar first-half breakthrough, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that the White Sox are going to limit his workload leading up to the trade deadline in a few weeks.       Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Orioles on Friday.

      Advice: Langeliers' seventh-inning, 412-foot shot to center closed the Athletics' deficit to 3-2, which would turn out to be the final score. It was the 16th homer across 75 games -- and third in the last nine -- for Langeliers, who appears very likely to surpass the career-best 22 he slugged last season if he's able to avoid any extended absences.       Merrill went 1-for-4 with a triple and three RBI in a 10-8 win against Arizona on Friday.

      Advice: Merrill knocked in San Diego's first run on a groundout in the second inning and added a two-run triple in the fourth. The outfielder also put an end to a streak of three games in which he had struck out multiple times. Despite that recent stretch, punchouts haven't been a problem for Merrill in the majors -- he has a very tolerable 17.0 percent strikeout rate through 323 plate appearances.       Adames went 1-for-4 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.

      Advice: Adames is up to 11 steals on the year, but he hadn't attempted one in his previous 21 games. In that span, he hit just .192 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored. The shortstop has endured another challenging campaign with a .234/.321/.402 slash line, 13 homers, 57 RBI and 46 runs scored over 89 contests, but his lackluster hitting hasn't cost him a starting role.       Cole Ragans didn’t factor into the decision despite allowing just two runs in seven innings with eight strikeouts against the Rockies on Friday.

      Advice: Ragans did walk three and gave up five hits, but for the most part, it was a very strong outing and a nice bounce back from his struggles against the Guardians (4 2/3 innings, five runs). The left-hander has shown that 2023 was no fluke with a 3.28 ERA and 134/37 K/BB over his 19 starts and 109 2/3 innings of work.       Advice: The Kansas City ace generated 21 whiffs en route to fanning eight, earning his 13th quality start in 18 appearances. Ragans has rounded into a Cy Young contender with his last 10 outings, firing a 2.52 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 77:21 K:BB across 60.2 innings. Overall, he sports a 3.28 ERA with a 134:37 K:BB across 109.2 innings on the year. The 26-year-old currently lines up to face the Red Sox on the road next weekend for his next outing.
