      Advice: Bird had allowed one run on two hits and a walk in one-third of the seventh inning but was checked out by trainers an removed from the contest after throwing a warm-up pitch during a review. While the severity of the groin injury is unclear, it's worth noting that his removal wasn't related to the elbow inflammation that sidelined him for almost a month.       Randy Vasquez pitched well in Saturday’s victory over the Brewers, scattering five hits over five scoreless innings of work.

      Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander also issued three free passes in the contest while striking out three. The biggest threat against him came in his final inning of work, as the Brewers put two men on with two outs and William Contreras crushed a ball to the wall in center field that came up just short of being a three-run homer. Vasquez generated just three whiffs on 98 pitches on the day, registering a minuscule CSW of only 17 percent. He’ll look to carry over the momentum from this fine outing as he brings a 5.10 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and a 31/12 K/BB ratio (47 2/3 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.       Advice: Lively bounced back from his shortest start of the year by getting back into the win column. He hasn't struck out more than five batters over his last five outings, but he's generally been good at limiting damage, as he's given up two or fewer runs in nine of his 12 starts. The right-hander is at a 3.03 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 56:20 K:BB through 65.1 innings this season, though he's also been tagged for 10 home runs, including two in Saturday's start.       Advice: Hicks surrendered a two-run home run to Paul Goldschmidt in the first and a three-run homer to Alec Burleson in the fourth before departing with a 5-4 deficit. After tossing five scoreless innings June 17, this was the most earned runs Hicks has allowed in a start this season. The righty has only completed five frames in one of four June outings and has not logged a quality start since April 27.       Advice: Mikolas struggled early, allowing three runs in the first inning and another in the third. He bounced back with three perfect frames and departed with a 7-4 lead at the conclusion of the sixth. Mikolas broke a streak of five consecutive quality starts but was still able to earn his third victory in his past four starts.       Advice: Taillon was excellent Saturday, with a solo home run by Francisco Alvarez in the fifth inning being his only blemish. He generated an impressive 15 swinging strikes on 93 pitches and notched a season-high 10 punchouts.       Megill (2-4) took the loss against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing six runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts over three innings.

      Advice: Megill allowed six baserunners and five runs in a disastrous 38-pitch first inning. He managed six strikeouts over the next two frames but also surrendered a solo home run to Christopher Morel and was replaced to open the fourth at 78 pitches. The outing was Megill's worst of the season, and he has now yielded 15 earned runs over 17.2 innings in four June starts.       Advice: After making both of his previous two appearances as a starter, Howard was deployed out of the bullpen behind opening pitcher Erik Miller. Miller left the game after pitching the first inning, then Spencer Bivens, Sean Hjelle and Taylor Rogers worked innings two through six before Howard entered the game in the top of the seventh. Though he worked just one frame, Howard tossed 33 pitches and should remain fairly stretched out if the Giants need to turn to him for a start or a bulk-relief appearance during the team's four-game series against the Cubs to begin the upcoming week.
