    • Cubs recall Keegan Thompson from Triple-A
Cubs recalled RHP Keegan Thompson from Triple-A

Advice: Thompson posted a serviceable 4.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 19/6 K/BB ratio across 12 2/3 innings (nine appearances) earlier this season for the Cubs. The 29-year-old righty provides Chicago’s bullpen with some extra long relief depth moving forward. Rotoworld Today, 10:31 am
    • Nursing injured elbow
Kepler is absent from Saturday's lineup against the Athletics due to a sore elbow, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Advice: Kepler was hit by a pitch on the elbow Friday and according to manager Rocco Baldelli, the outfielder is sore while dealing with some stiffness. Baldelli said that Kepler will probably "need a day or two," but the injury isn't considered to be a long-term concern. Rotowire.com Today, 10:01 am

    • Breather Saturday
Kepler is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Athletics.

Advice: Kepler will take a seat after he went 4-for-7 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored over the first two games of the series. Trevor Larnach will slide over to right field while Austin Martin enters the lineup in left field and bats ninth against Oakland. Rotowire.com Today, 8:48 am

    • Homers, drives in four
Kepler went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Friday's win over Oakland.

Advice: Kepler did most of his damage with a three-run shot in the sixth inning but later delivered a clutch walk-off single in the 10th. He entered Friday's game with a .398 OPS in 11 games this month and the home run was his first since May 22. Kepler is now slashing .263/.326/.433 with 19 extra-base knocks and 27 RBI through 190 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 5:02 am

    • Max Kepler homers, delivers walk-off win on Friday
Max Kepler went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI on Friday night, propelling the Twins to a walk-off 6-5 victory over the Athletics in 10 innings.

Advice: Kepler broke out of his recent funk in a major way in the sixth inning on Friday, crushing a game-tying 426-foot (105.6 mph EV) three-run shot off of Mitch Spence that evened things up at 4-4. He then came through with a walk-off RBI single off of Scott Alexander in the 10th inning that sent the Twins’ home faithful into a frenzy. With his three-hit effort, the 31-year-old outfielder is now slashing .263/.326/.433 with five homers and 27 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:45 pm

    • Sitting again
Calhoun is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Advice: Calhoun will take a seat for a second straight game Friday, with Kevin Pillar playing left field and batting cleanup while Taylor Ward bats third as the DH. Calhoun is 10-for-30 (.333) in June with five walks and two strikeouts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:45 pm
    • Looks sharp Friday
Hendricks tossed 4.1 scoreless innings of relief in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Cardinals. He allowed two hits and struck out one.

Advice: Chicago starter Jordan Hicks departed after just 1.2 innings due to an oblique injury, which pushed Hendricks into action. The veteran responded well and had perhaps his best outing of the season, giving the Cubs some much-needed length out of the bullpen. While Hendricks still has an ugly 8.20 ERA overall, he's been better lately with 8.2 scoreless innings over his last three appearances. The veteran is the most likely candidate to move into the rotation with Wicks expected to land on the IL. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:38 pm
    • Kyle Hendricks goes 4 1/3 scoreless in relief
Kyle Hendricks pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings after replacing an injured Jordan Wicks in the second Friday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Hendricks struck out just one, but he walked none and allowed only one hard-hit ball. One imagines Wicks will join Ben Brown on the IL tomorrow, likely resulting in Hendricks’ return to the rotation. That doesn’t make him a fantasy option, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he does a better job of holding his own this time around. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:05 pm
    • Cade Cavalli (elbow) to throw live bullpen session
Cade Cavalli (elbow) is scheduled to throw a live bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: If all goes well with that session, it’s possible that the 25-year-old hurler could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. He’s going to need several starts there before he’s an option to join the Nationals’ rotation, but he’s certainly taking tangible strides in that direction. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:44 pm
