    • Allows five earned runs in loss
      Castillo (6-8) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

      Advice: Castillo entered the fifth with a 3-2 lead, but with two outs a walk preceded a home run by Andres Gimenez, then another walk paved the way for a Josh Naylor double that saddled Castillo with five runs allowed and left him on the hook for the loss. Following Castillo's start June 2, he was on a 10-game stretch of allowing no more than two earned runs. However, his last three starts have been more of a mixed bag, as he's allowed 12 earned runs over his last 16 innings (6.75 ERA) including five runs allowed in two of his last three starts.     • Lugo allows two runs in no-decision on Thursday
      Seth Lugo allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Royals’ 3-2 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.



      Advice: Lugo gave up six hits, walked three and struck out eight. He allowed a two-run game-tying home run to Zack Gelof in the seventh inning, but it was still another solid effort from Lugo. The 34-year-old right-hander is set to face the Marlins at home next week.

    • Josh Hader strikes out two in save vs. White Sox
      Josh Hader struck out two while firing a scoreless frame to get a save against the White Sox on Thursday.

      Advice: Even with the two strikes, Hader needed just 14 pitches — 12 of those strikes — to get the save. The left-hander has now 11 in his first season as a member of the Astros, and he’s been much better than his 3.78 season ERA might indicate. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:04 pm
       
    • Luis Castillo struggles in start vs. Guardians
      Luis Castillo gave up five runs in five innings against the Guardians on Thursday while picking up a loss.

      Advice: Castillo allowed eight hits and two walks while striking out four. He gave up two homers in the outing; a solo blast by Will Brennan, and a two-run shot to Andres Gimenez in the fifth. It’s a disappointing outing for the right-hander, and it’s the second time in three outings he’s given up five runs in as many frames.     • Nails down 21st save
      Finnegan struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 21st save of the season in a 3-1 win over Arizona.

      Advice: The right-hander breezed through the Diamondbacks' 5-6-7 hitters on 14 pitches (11 strikes) en route to his eighth straight successful conversion. Finnegan has put together the best first half of his career with a 1.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB through 31.1 innings, but if the Nats fall out of the wild-card picture, he figures to become one of the team's biggest trade chips given that he has just one more year of arbitration eligibility in 2025 before reaching free agency.       Hader allowed one hit in a scoreless inning while striking out one batter to earn a save against the White Sox on Wednesday.

      Advice: It was a relatively easy outing for Hader, who entered in the ninth with Houston ahead by three runs. The veteran closer allowed a one-out single but was never in serious trouble.       Yates earned a save against the Mets on Wednesday, striking out one batter in a perfect ninth inning.

      Advice: Yates protected a two-run Texas lead in the top of the ninth frame, retiring the side in order on 16 pitches. The veteran reliever is a perfect 11-for-11 in save chances this season -- no closer in baseball has converted more saves without blowing any opportunities.       Advice: Anderson held an opponent to one run for the sixth time in his last seven starts, but a lack of run support from the Angels stuck him with another loss. In that seven-start span, he's walked at least three batters four times and hasn't struck out more than five batters in any outing. The southpaw is at a 2.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 63:41 K:BB through 94.1 innings through 15 starts this year. Anderson is projected to make his next start at home versus the Athletics.
