    • Tommy John surgery scheduled
      Javier (forearm) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: The right-hander landed on the injured list in late May due to right forearm discomfort and is now set to miss the rest of the 2024 campaign. Javier will also be sidelined until at least the second half of 2025 as he rehabs from the surgery.       The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports Cristian Javier will undergo Tommy John surgery.

      Advice: It’s a significant hit to Houston’s already razor-thin starting pitching depth as Javier has been a mainstay in their starting rotation for the last three seasons and boasts a stellar 3.59 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 27 percent strikeout rate over 501 innings (116 appearances, 82 starts) in the majors since 2020.       Advice: Darvish had to make an early exit from his start Wednesday against Miami due to hamstring problems, but the issue appears to instead be groin-related. He will be joined by fellow starter Joe Musgrove (elbow) on the injured list while Randy Vasquez and Logan Gillaspie come up from Triple-A El Paso to take their places.
