      Steele (0-3) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings as the Cubs were downed 3-2 by the Reds. He struck out seven.

      Advice: The southpaw pitched well in his second quality start of the season, generating 30 called or swinging strikes among his 90 pitches, but a lack of run support kept him out of the win column once again. Steele appears to be rounding into form after missing all of April with a hamstring strain, and over his last three starts he sports a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 19 innings.       Miller did not factor into the decision in Friday's 10-9 loss to Kansas City, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out one.

      Advice: Miller posted his worst start of the season, allowing nine baserunners and seven runs, each marking season worsts. The Seattle right-hander was cruising through three scoreless innings before allowing four runs in the fourth, rounded out with a three-run blast by MJ Melendez. The outing pushed Miller's WHIP north of one, as it now stands at 1.02 to go with a 3.81 ERA over 75.2 innings.     • Camilo Doval perfect in earning save
      Camilo Doval was perfect in the ninth for a save in a 5-2 game against the Rangers on Friday.

      Advice: Doval was pitching for the first time since giving up four runs in a blown save and a loss to the Yankees on Sunday.       Bryce Miller gave up seven runs in five innings but didn’t factor in the decision against the Royals on Friday.

      Advice: Miller was handed an 8-0 lead, but he nearly gave it all back himself. The right-hander walked three while allowing eight hits — including a three-run homer to MJ Melendez — and he struck out just one in his worst start of the season.       Doval struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Rangers on Friday.

      Advice: Doval fired 10 of 15 pitches to quickly retire the Ragners' 3-4-5 hitters in order and finish off the 5-2 win. It was his first appearance since coughing up four runs against the Yankees on June 2. Doval has now converted 10 of his 12 save chances and Friday was his first successful attempt since May 24.     • Justin Steele remains winless after quality start
      Justin Steele dropped to 0-3 after allowing three runs in seven innings Friday against the Reds.

      Advice: Two of the runs scored in the fourth after Steele had Elly De La Cruz picked off first base, only for Cruz to reach second because of errant throw from Michael Busch.       Woo (3-0) picked up the win Thursday, allowing two hits and no walks with six strikeouts across six scoreless innings against Oakland.

      Advice: Woo threw a season-high 85 pitches Thursday, an encouraging sign for the 24-year-old after he missed all of April with elbow inflammation and exited his first start after his IL stint with forearm tightness. Even with a restricted pitch count, the right-hander has generated four consecutive quality starts and has fired 12 straight scoreless innings, giving him a 1.07 ERA and 24:2 K:BB through 33.2 innings.     • Bryan Woo blanks Athletics to lower ERA to 1.07
      Bryan Woo blanked the Athletics over six innings with six strikeouts in a 3-0 win for the Mariners on Thursday.

      Advice: Woo allowed just two hits without walking anyone. The right-hander has been spectacular since returning from the injured list, and the six scoreless frames lower his ERA to a miniscule 1.07 on the season. Woo has been able to take advantage of some poor lineups thus far, but there’s simply no denying these kinds of results. He should have no trouble against the White Sox next week.     • Impressive nine-strikeout effort
      Kirby (5-5) got the win over the Athletics on Tuesday, recording nine strikeouts while allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk over five-plus innings.

      Advice: The right-hander had his swing-and-miss stuff in prime form for the second consecutive start, one-upping his eight-strikeout tally against the Astros last Wednesday. The two runs on Kirby's ledger came about through relatively innocuous means, with Abraham Toro getting to him with an RBI single in the third and Austin Voth conceding an RBI groundout to inherited runner Shea Langeliers upon entering for Kirby in the sixth. Kirby's last two strikeout-heavy outings have come on the heels of back-to-back starts where he gave up five runs apiece to the Nationals and Orioles, giving him some momentum heading into a projected tussle with the improved Royals at home on Sunday.
