Irvin came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Atlanta, allowing two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out 10.

Advice: Matched up against Atlanta ace Max Fried, Irvin rose to the occasion and set a new career high in Ks while locked in a scoreless pitchers' duel. The quality start was Irvin's sixth of the season, but he hasn't picked up a win in five straight outings despite a 2.45 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 28:4 K:BB through 29.1 innings. The 27-year-old right-hander will look for more support in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Cleveland. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:32 am

    • Sharp vs. Reds
Gibson (4-2) earned the win Tuesday over Cincinnati, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Gibson was excellent Tuesday, as he held the Reds to one hit until Will Benson ended his shutout bid with a homer in the sixth inning. The 36-year-old Gibson has held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in eight of his last nine outings. He's lowered his ERA to 3.60 with a 1.22 WHIP and 52:25 K:BB across 11 starts (65 innings) this year. Gibson's currently in line for a road matchup with the Astros in his next outing early next week. • Jake Irvin gets tough luck no decision on Tuesday
Jake Irvin threw six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 in a no-decision against the Braves.

Advice: Irvin kept the Braves guessing all night, allowing an average exit velocity against of just 80 mph while posting a 28 percent whiff rate and 27 percent CSW. His curve was particularly effective on Tuesday, and the right-hander now has a 3.43 ERA on the year. He does have just 54 strikeouts in 63 innings, so he doesn’t have the strikeout upside that tonight’s game would indicate, but he’s been solid all season long and could be a decent streaming option against the Guardians this weekend. • Kyle Gibson keeps Reds bats in check in win
Kyle Gibson allowed just one run on two hits in six innings in a win over the Reds on Tuesday.

Advice: Gibson struck out six and walked one and the only real damage was a solo home run to Will Benson in the sixth inning. The 36-year-old posted an impressive 15 whiffs for a 34 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW. Gibson used all six of his pitches on the night, and had a 38 percent whiff rate on the sweeper while his cutter pounded the strike zone for a 41 percent CSW. The veteran now has a 3.60 ERA on the season but gets a tough start on the road against the Astros next week. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:23 pm

    • Merrill Kelly (shoulder) set to resume throwing
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Merrill Kelly (shoulder) will start a throwing program next week.

Advice: Kelly has been out since late April due to a right shoulder strain and is going to require several weeks of bullpen sessions and rehab starts before he’s an option for Arizona again. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:52 pm

    • Nearing throwing program
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Kelly (shoulder) is expected to begin a throwing program next week, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: The right-hander has apparently been progressing well in his recovery from a right shoulder strain and is now on the cusp of resuming baseball work. Kelly will require some time to build his arm up before progressing to mound work and eventually a rehab assignment, so he shouldn't be expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks until sometime in July. • Takes first loss Monday
Walker (3-1) took the loss against San Francisco on Monday, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

Advice: The positive is that Walker was able to complete six frames for the first time in his past three starts, but he was far from effective in doing so. The right-hander gave up a season-high nine hits, while the five earned runs were the most he's allowed since his season debut April 28. Despite Walker's adequate 3-1 record, he's been unimpressive with a 5.51 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB over 32.2 innings on the season. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:28 pm
    • Fans seven in no-decision
Snell allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over four innings in a no-decision against Philadelphia on Monday.

Advice: Snell went on the paternity list Thursday while awaiting the birth of his child, but he ended up taking his normal turn in the rotation. The left-hander set a season high with seven punchouts but again failed to complete five innings -- through five starts this season, he's topped out at 4.2 frames. Snell also has yet to allow fewer than three earned runs in an outing, and his ERA for the campaign sits at an unsightly 10.42. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:23 pm

    • Walker allows five earned in loss Monday
Taijuan Walker allowed six runs (five earned) in six innings and took the loss against the Giants on Monday.

Advice: Walker allowed nine hits, two walks and struck out four. He completed six innings for the fourth time in six starts this year, but the five earned runs allowed increased his ERA to 5.51. After starting 3-0, Walker hasn’t won any of his last three starts. The 31-year-old right-hander is set to face the Cardinals at home this weekend.
