    • Anthony Santander returns to right field
Anthony Santander is back in right field Wednesday for the first time since suffering a bruised knee last week.

Advice: Santander was used as a designated hitter in his previous three starts. He’s batting cleanup today against the Cardinals. Rotoworld 44 minutes ago

    • Bullpen session pushed to Thursday
Olson (hip) is slated to throw a bullpen session Thursday and is on track to make his scheduled start this weekend against the Blue Jays, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Advice: The Tigers initially said Olson would throw off a mound Wednesday, but he it will be pushed back one day. Olson had to exit his outing Monday versus the Royals after being struck on the right hip by a comebacker. Detroit fully expects the righty to be ready for his start this weekend, but he'll need to get through Thursday's mound session before that's official. Rotowire.com Today, 10:03 am
    • Ryan Pepiot activated ahead of Wednesday’s start

    • Activated ahead of start
The Rays activated Pepiot (lower leg) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Pepiot will rejoin the Rays' rotation Wednesday against the Red Sox after missing the previous two weeks with a left lower-leg contusion. The right-hander did not make a rehab start, so it's possible he will be relatively limited from a pitch-count perspective versus Boston. Pepiot will bring a 3.68 ERA and nifty 41:11 K:BB over 36.2 innings into Wednesday's proceedings. Rotowire.com Today, 9:52 am

    • Homers in Tuesday's loss
Estrada went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Estrada has two homers and eight RBI while batting .333 (7-for-21) over his last five games. The second baseman is up to a .250/.275/.444 slash line with eight homers, 29 RBI, 26 runs scored and one stolen base through 48 contests. He's easily on pace to surpass the 14 homers he hit in each of the last two years, though his increased power has come with the small price of less contact and slightly poorer plate discipline -- he's posted a 3.2 percent walk rate, his lowest in four years as a Giant. • Swipes base as pinch runner
Ruiz entered Tuesday's win over the Rockies in the eighth inning as a pinch runner and remained in the game in left field. He did not log a plate appearance but recorded a stolen base.

Advice: Abraham Toro opened the eighth inning with a go-ahead solo home run for Oakland and Brent Rooker got aboard with a single two batters later, setting up Ruiz's entry into the game in a pinch-running capacity. The fleet-footed outfielder advanced to second on a Shea Langeliers walk before swiping third, but he was stranded at the hot corner after Tyler Soderstrom and Zack Gelof each struck out to end the inning. Ruiz has seen only sporadic playing time after drawing starts in four of the first seven games in May, with JJ Bleday earning the bulk of playing time in center field thanks to a productive stretch at the plate over his last 10 contests. • Blows first save
Doval gave up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday to blow his first save of the season in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Pirates. He struck out one.

Advice: The Giants rolled into the ninth inning with a 6-2 lead, but after Luke Jackson put two runners aboard with one out, Doval got the call and coaxed a potential double-play grounder from Andrew McCutchen, only for Marco Luciano to boot it and pave the way for a Pirates rally. Doval's control has taken a step backward this season, as he has a 15.7 percent walk rate compared to a 9.3 percent mark in 2023, but he still carries a 2.89 ERA to go with his 1.45 WHIP, 25:13 K:BB through 18.2 innings and eight saves. • Brett Baty sits against second straight righty
Brett Baty is out of the lineup against a righty for a second straight game Wednesday against the Guardians.

Advice: While Baty and Mark Vientos had been platooning, it figured that Vientos would get one start against the Guardians, just because the Mets didn’t want him to sit around doing nothing for four days (three straight righties followed by an off day). Vientos, though, did very well with his start last night, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, and he’s getting the nod again in this one. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Baty demoted soon. Rotoworld Today, 7:33 am

    • Homers again Tuesday
Seager went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Seager had a rough time against Phillies starter Ranger Suarez, going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts to start the day. However, he'd turn his night around with a solo home run off Jeff Hoffman in the eighth inning, cutting Texas' deficit to 3-2. The long ball extended Seager's hitting streak to six games -- he's gone 7-for-22 (.318) with three homers in that span. The 30-year-old shortstop is now slashing .246/.335/.383 with seven homers, 18 RBI and 20 runs scored through 200 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Today, 7:13 am
