    • Brendan Donovan leads Cardinals to win over Giants
Brendan Donovan went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI on Thursday, powering the Cardinals to a 6-5 victory over the Giants at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

Advice: Donovan served as the Cardinals’ primary offensive catalyst in this one as the Alabama native took Giants starter Keaton Winn deep in the opening frame for his seventh big fly of the season. He also plated a key insurance run with a fifth-inning RBI single against Giants lefty reliever Taylor Rogers. The three-hit effort raises his batting average to a solid .258 mark to go along with 33 runs scored, seven homers, 36 RBI and one steal over 69 games. Rotoworld Today, 8:08 pm

    • Absent from lineup
Mateo is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Yankees.

Advice: Mateo had a couple hits and a run scored in Wednesday's extra-inning victory over the Yankees, but he'll nonetheless begin Thursday's festivities on the bench. Jordan Westburg is at second base and Ramon Urias will play third. Rotowire.com Today, 11:42 am

    • Brandon Drury scratched with illness on Wednesday
Brandon Drury was scratched from the Angels’ starting lineup on Wednesday night due to illness.

Advice: The 31-year-old infielder had just returned from the injured list on Monday, so it’s encouraging to hear that it’s just an illness keeping him out of action and not a recurrence of his hamstring issue. He should be considered day-to-day. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:43 pm

    • Scratched with illness
Drury was scratched from the Angels' lineup ahead of Wednesday's game versus Milwaukee due to an illness, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Drury has gone 1-for-6 with a walk since returning from the injured list Monday, but he'll be sidelined once again Wednesday as he fights off an illness. Luis Guillorme will instead start at the keystone and bat ninth versus right-hander Freddy Peralta. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:38 pm

    • Swipes bag in loss
Mateo went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Mateo remains in a slump -- he's 0-for-10 over his last four games -- but he's picked up two steals over six contests since he returned from a concussion. With Jordan Westburg (hip) leaving Tuesday's game early, Mateo's playing time could rise in the short term if his teammate is forced to miss additional games. Mateo is at a .231/.280/.431 slash line with four home runs, 16 RBI, 22 runs scored and 12 steals across 48 contests this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:59 am

    • Smacks homer Tuesday
Donovan went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Donovan has gone 15-for-51 (.294) over his last 13 games, adding two homers and seven RBI in that span. The 27-year-old got a rare start at third base Tuesday with Nolan Arenado taking a day off, though Donovan has found consistent playing time between left field and second base for much of the year. He's at a .247/.319/.380 slash line with six homers, 32 RBI, 32 runs scored and one stolen base over 67 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:56 am

    • Whit Merrifield out of Phillies lineup once again
Whit Merrifield is on the bench for a sixth consecutive game Wednesday against the Padres.

Advice: After hitting a big homer in London, Merrifield got to remain in the Phillies lineup for a few days and came up with a few more hits. However, he’s at just .190/.274/.298 for the season, and he’s been a non-factor this last week. It’s not hard to imagine the Phillies cutting him loose if Johan Rojas gets hot in Triple-A and pushes his way back onto the roster. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:34 am

    • Dodgers expect Betts (hand) to miss 6-8 weeks
The Dodgers’ current guess is that Mookie Betts will miss 6-8 weeks with a fractured left hand.

Advice: Sounds about right. The Dodgers will mostly go with Miguel Rojas at shortstop for now; manager Dave Roberts said he’d start three of the four games in Colorado this week. Enrique Hernández figures to get the nod in the other. Rotoworld Monday, 5:23 pm

    • Likely to miss 6-to-8 weeks
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that the expectation is Betts (wrist) will be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The timeline is a rough estimate, as Roberts noted that much will depend on how Betts' fractured left wrist heals in the coming weeks. If Roberts' suggested timetable holds true, that means Betts will be out at least until late July. Miguel Rojas is expected to be the Dodgers' regular shortstop while Betts is on the shelf.
