Kimbrel had blown consecutive save chances before he was sidelined, allowing three runs in just a third of an inning.       Advice: Kikuchi left with a two-run lead and then watched the bullpen give up seven runs in two innings. This is probably the Jays’ ugliest loss yet, particularly since they were facing Patrick Corbin. Kikuchi is certainly doing his part thus far, amassing a 2.72 ERA and a 43/9 K/BB ratio in 39 2/3 innings.       Advice: He carved up the Washington lineup en route to his fourth quality start of the season, generating 34 called or swinging strikes among his 100 pitches, and Kikuchi left the mound with Toronto ahead 3-1. Unfortunately, Erik Swanson immediately coughed up the lead in the seventh inning, denying Kikuchi his third win. The southpaw will take a 2.72 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB through 39.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Twins.       Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer in the Royals’ 7-1 victory over the Rangers on Friday.

      Advice: Perez broke the game open with his three-run homer, as it came with the Royals leading 4-1 in an inning where Kansas City put up a six-spot. The 33-year-old catcher has already gone deep eight times in 2024, and the three runs driven in bump that total to 30.       Orioles’ manager Brandon Hyde told reporters on Friday that Craig Kimbrel (back) is ready to return to the team’s closer role.

      Advice: He may have gotten there sooner if the Orioles had a save chance arise over the past couple of days, but it sounds like the 35-year-old hurler is ready to rock for the weekend.       Javier (neck) will throw four innings or roughly 60-to-65 pitches Saturday for Double-A Corpus Christi before potentially rejoining the big-league rotation, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
