• Will pitch Sunday
Jansen, who hasn't pitched the last six days, will be used in Sunday's game against the Twins, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: The Red Sox have a day off Monday and will prevent Jansen from the absence extending any further, so the closer is expected to pitch one way or another. He's pitched just once over the last nine days. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago
  • Nelson (elbow) off injured list to start Sunday
Diamondbacks activated RHP Ryne Nelson off the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Nelson is back to make a start Sunday against the Padres. The right-hander ended up missing the minimum amount of time while dealing with a bruise on his right elbow. Nelson was shaky in his starts prior to the injury, and fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for a streaming option. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

  • Diamondbacks option Brandon Hughes to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned LHP Brandon Hughes to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Hughes was just recalled Tuesday, but the Diamondbacks need a roster spot for Ryne Nelson after Nelson was activated off the 15-day injured list. Hughes is still on the 40-man roster, so he could see another chance with the D-Backs before the end of 2024. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago
  • Throws bullpen session
Whitlock (oblique) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Whitlock emerged from the session without issue and will embark on a throwing program. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said, "it's just the beginning," when discussing the right-hander's status. Whitlock was placed on the injured list April 17 and seemingly would need at least one rehab start. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Waiting on thumb
Scherzer (back) is still in a holding pattern while waiting for the soreness in his right thumb to subside, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Texas manager Bruce Bochy said the thumb improves every day, but Scherzer is not yet at the point where he can play catch. The right-hander threw 52 pitches in his first rehab start but experienced thumb soreness afterwards. His next rehab start, scheduled for April 30, was pushed back. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago
  • Heads back to minors
The Blue Jays optioned Little to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Advice: He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to right-hander Alek Manoah (shoulder), who was activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Nationals. After being called up from Triple-A on April 25, Little made three appearances out of the Toronto bullpen, giving up four earned runs over 3.1 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 10:00 am
  • Activated ahead of 2024 debut
The Blue Jays reinstated Manoah (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Nationals in Washington.

Advice: Manoah will be making his 2024 season debut for the Blue Jays after he opened the campaign on the shelf with right shoulder inflammation before completing a five-start minor-league rehab assignment between stops at Single-A Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo. The right-hander was far from sharp over the course of the minor-league assignment -- he posted an 8.69 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB across 19.2 frames -- but he finished off his stint at Buffalo in dominant fashion, tossing six innings of one-run ball while striking out 12 and issuing just two walks this past Tuesday. The Blue Jays are hopeful that Manoah can eventually regain the form that made him a third-place finisher in the 2022 American League Cy Young Award balloting, but his fantasy managers may want to tread carefully before activating him. Much like the entirety of his rehab assignment prior to Tuesday, Manoah struggled mightily with his command and control during his time with the Blue Jays and various minor-league affiliates in a disastrous 2023 season. • Blue Jays option Brendon Little to Buffalo
Blue Jays optioned LHP Brendon Little to Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Little is pushed off the roster with Alek Manoah coming off the injured list for his season debut. The 27-year-old will likely get another chance to help the Toronto bullpen at some point this summer. Rotoworld Today, 9:49 am
  • Alek Manoah (shoulder) off IL for Sunday start
Blue Jays activated Alek Manoah off the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Manoah comes off the injured list to make his season debut against the Nationals on Sunday. The right-hander had mixed results in his rehab appearances, but he was excellent Tuesday with 12 strikeouts over six innings in his finale. Manoah was one of the worst fantasy options in baseball last year, but isn’t far removed from being one of the best. Simply put, there’s as much risk — if not more — as there is reward with Manoah’s profile. Rotoworld Today, 9:48 am
