    Gerrit Cole (elbow) could make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles.

    Advice: The Yankees announced their rotation for the series against Baltimore. Kind of. Tuesday’s starter will be Nestor Cortes, and Thursday will be Luis Gil. Wednesday has a TBD by it, and it seems possible — if not probable — that it’ll be Cole returning to the rotation. The 2023 Cy Young winner has looked the part in his rehab starts, and while there could be some precautions taken, there’s every reason to believe he’ll be just as fantasy relevant over these three-plus months of 2024.   • Plays catch Sunday
    Verlander (neck) played catch Sunday and manager Joe Espada left the door open for Verlander to return to Houston's rotation this week against the White Sox, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: It sounds like Verlander is already feeling better after he was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to neck discomfort. If he responds well in the coming days, the three-time Cy Young winner could return for a prime matchup in Chicago, though Espada said it's still up in the air.     Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters that Justin Verlander (neck) could return for the upcoming series against the White Sox.

    Advice: The Astros won’t announce their rotation for the upcoming games against Chicago just yet, largely (entirely) because the status of Verlander is up in the air. The future Hall of Famer was scratched from Saturday’s start against Detroit with discomfort in his neck, and he hasn’t been particularly effective when on the mound.     Treinen (2-1) took the loss and was charged with a blown save Saturday against Kansas City. He allowed four runs on one hit and three walks while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning.

    Advice: Treinen had been dominant coming into Saturday, posting a 19:2 K:BB over 13 scoreless innings across 14 appearances. However, he struggled with his control against the Royals, issuing three straight one-out walks. It appeared Treinen might get out of the jam when he fanned Adam Frazier for the second out of the frame and then backed MJ Melendez into a 1-2 count, but Melendez put together a brilliant 12-pitch at-bat that included six straight two-strike foul balls before launching a grand slam. Treinen's ERA jumped to 2.63 due to the poor outing, but given his overall body of work this season, he should continue to be a high-leverage option for the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Today, 8:57 am

    Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Turner (hamstring) will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Turner has been on the shelf since May 4 with a left hamstring strain, but he'll rejoin the big club without requiring a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand after the Phillies came away from his recent workouts convinced enough that he's at or near full health. Once he's formally activated from the IL ahead of Monday's game against the Padres, Turner should settle back in as the Phillies' everyday shortstop, pushing Edmundo Sosa back into a utility role. Sosa performed well during Turner's extended absence, and Thomson recently floated the possibility of Sosa seeing some looks in the outfield once Turner is back in the fold.     Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters before Sunday’s game that Trea Turner (hamstring) will be activated off the injured list before Monday’s game against the Padres.

    Advice: There was some talk that Turner could be back Sunday, but Philadelphia will get the 30-year-old one more day before he’s back in action. The star shortstop’s return is a big boost for both fantasy managers and the Phillies.   • Another big performance
    Vaughn went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Saturday's win over the Diamondbacks.

    Advice: Vaughn drove home Chicago's first run of the game with an RBI single in the third before adding a two-run shot in the fifth, boosting the team's lead to three runs. It marked the first baseman's fifth long ball in his last 10 games and he's now batting .340 in June with nine RBI and 11 runs scored.     Advice: De La Cruz made his impact in the ninth inning when he walked, stole second base and came home on Jeimer Candelario's double. The theft was De La Cruz's league-leading 35th of the season.
