    • Josiah Gray goes 79 pitches in latest rehab start
Josiah Gray (elbow) pitched well in Wednesday’s minor league rehab start at Double-A Harrisburg, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander punched out five batters on the night while issuing three free passes. Gray got up to 79 pitches in the outing, and the original plan had been for him to make one additional rehab start after this one to get to around six innings or 90 pitches. Given how strong he has looked though, there’s a chance that the Nationals could opt to bring him back early. Either way, he could rejoin the Nationals’ rotation before the end of next week. • Dodgers officially place Walker Buehler on IL
Dodgers placed RHP Walker Buehler on the 15-day injured list with right hip inflammation.

Advice: Buehler was hit in the hip by a comebacker during Thursday’s bloodbath at Coors Field, so it gives the Dodgers a viable reason to stash him on the injured list for a couple of weeks while he works through some of his struggles. Buehler has pitched to a woeful 5.84 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP over 37 innings in eight starts since returning from the injured list. Bobby Miller was activated from the IL in a corresponding move on Wednesday. Rotoworld 5 minutes ago

    • J.P. Crawford tossed for arguing balls and strikes
J.P. Crawford was ejected from Wednesday’s contest against the Guardians after arguing a questionable third strike call in the fifth inning.

Advice: Things got heated between the M’s shortstop and home plate umpire Doug Eddings, with Crawford and eventually manager Scott Servais both getting the heave-ho. Crawford will have to catch the rest of Wednesday’s game from the clubhouse. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago
    • Headed to majors
The Cardinals will recall Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kloffenstein has spent all season with Memphis, posting a 3.97 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 77 innings across 14 starts. Although he has been used almost exclusively as a starter throughout his minor-league career, he will likely be used as a multi-inning reliever while with St. Louis. The 23-year-old righty will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago
    • Brandon Drury scratched with illness on Wednesday
Brandon Drury was scratched from the Angels’ starting lineup on Wednesday night due to illness.

Advice: The 31-year-old infielder had just returned from the injured list on Monday, so it’s encouraging to hear that it’s just an illness keeping him out of action and not a recurrence of his hamstring issue. He should be considered day-to-day. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

    • Goes deep in win
De La Cruz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 win over St. Louis.

Advice: De La Cruz led off the contest with a 429-foot solo shot off Matthew Liberatore. The 27-year-old outfielder has gone 4-for-14 with a pair of homers in his last three games -- De La Cruz is up to 13 long balls this year, putting him well on pace to surpass his career high of 19. Overall, he's slashing .245/.296/.424 with 34 RBI and 34 runs scored across 314 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

    • Scratched with illness
Drury was scratched from the Angels' lineup ahead of Wednesday's game versus Milwaukee due to an illness, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Drury has gone 1-for-6 with a walk since returning from the injured list Monday, but he'll be sidelined once again Wednesday as he fights off an illness. Luis Guillorme will instead start at the keystone and bat ninth versus right-hander Freddy Peralta. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago

    • Homers Wednesday
Gorman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Gorman led off the second inning with a 436-foot blast off Yonny Chirinos, cutting St. Louis' deficit to 2-1. It's the first homer in seven games for Gorman, who'd gone just 1-for-28 in that span. Overall, the 24-year-old second baseman is slashing .202/.278/.437 with 16 homers, 34 RBI, 31 runs scored and three steals across 67 games this year. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

    • Brewers designate Elieser Hernandez for assignment
Brewers designated RHP Elieser Hernandez for assignment.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler was signed to an MLB contract earlier this month, but he already finds himself on the outs after registering a solid 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 2/2 K/BB ratio over six innings with the ballclub. There’s a decent chance that he generates interest on waivers. Bradley Blalock was recalled from Double-A Biloxi in a corresponding move on Wednesday. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago
