    • Tuesday's scheduled starter
Montas (forearm) is listed as the scheduled starter for Tuesday's series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Montas, who has been on the injured list since April 22, threw a couple of sessions last week. That was apparently enough to avoid a rehab stint and jump back into the rotation. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

    • Could return Tuesday
Friedl (wrist) and team decision-makers were scheduled for a call Sunday evening to discuss the outfielder's potential return, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Friedl, who made a fourth consecutive appearance Sunday on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville, could be activated as soon as Tuesday, when the Reds open a three-game series at home against the Diamondbacks. "There is a chance," manager David Bell said. "I think we are all going to be involved in that decision." Friedl fractured his right wrist while diving for a ball March 16 and opened the season on the injured list. He's 4-for-16 with three doubles while on rehab with the Bats. • Could begin hitting this week
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday that he believes Perdomo (knee) will start hitting this week, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

Advice: Perdomo has already started some baseball activity, including fielding grounders and throwing. A rehab assignment for the shortstop should follow his return to the batting cages, but a timeline for his return to MLB has not yet been established. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

    • In line for return this week
Thomas (hamstring) served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

Advice: Thomas, who played in the field Saturday and DH on Friday, has appeared in the three consecutive games. He hit safely in all three and driven in five runs. If there are no setbacks, he's expected to meet up with the Diamondbacks in Cincinnati for a three-game series beginning Tuesday, according to Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. The Reds have right-hander Frankie Montas scheduled to throw Tuesday, so the lefty-hitting Thomas could be in the lineup for the series opener. Rotowire.com 52 minutes ago

    • Garners win in return
Nelson (2-2) picked up the win over the Padres on Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings.

Advice: Nelson wasn't spectacular in his return from a trip to the injured list, but he didn't need to be after the Diamondbacks plated 11 runs through five innings. Nelson served up a two-run homer to Jackson Merrill in the second before Kyle Higashioka doubled in Ha-Seong Kim after he walked. The Padres would scratch across another run in the third before being silenced the rest of the way. Nelson was able to get up to 99 pitches and has slid into the rotation spot of Tommy Henry who was optioned to Triple-A Reno last week. Nelson owns a 5.23 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB in 20.2 innings and is slated for a tough road matchup against Baltimore his next time out. Rotowire.com 59 minutes ago
    • Surrenders eight runs in loss
Waldron (1-4) took the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out two over three innings.

Advice: Waldron suffered his worst outing of the season, allowing a career-high eight runs while also posting the shortest outing since he debuted last year. The Diamondbacks put up a four-spot on him in the first, highlighted by a two-run blast from Ketel Marte. They tacked on another two in the second and then chased him out of the fourth with back-to-back doubles to open up in the inning. Despite the shaky results, Waldron may have been given another life after Joe Musgrove was put on the 15-day IL Sunday with elbow inflammation. He now owns a 5.82 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 29:13 K:BB in 34 innings and is expected to take the mound against versus the Dodgers over the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 4:40 am
    • MRI coming Monday
Ruiz, who was removed from Saturday's win over the Marlins with a wrist injury and was out of the lineup Sunday, is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday, per A's beat reporter Jessica Kleinschmidt.

Advice: Manager Mark Kotsay hadn't ruled out Ruiz making an in-game appearance Sunday, but that situation never arose in an ugly 12-3 loss for the Athletics. Ruiz is now headed for further evaluation Monday, after which the severity of injury he suffered making a diving catch in Saturday's game will become clearer. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:09 pm

    • Sustains back injury Sunday
Boyle, who was lifted after one inning in Sunday's loss to the Marlins, was suffering from lower-back pain that got worse the more he threw during the frame, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Boyle's performance clearly seemed to be affected by his physical limitations, as he allowed four earned runs on a hit and three walks over his sole inning on the mound. Manager Mark Kotsay confirmed Boyle would undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury, at which point the right-hander's chances of making his next scheduled start Saturday against the Mariners will become clearer. Per Sonja Chen of MLB.com, right-handers Osvaldo Bido and Joey Estes, both of whom have big-league experience and are on the 40-man roster, are candidates to be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas should Boyle miss at least one turn through the rotation, although she adds Oakland has long relievers Mitch Spence and Kyle Muller as options on the big-league roster. • Non-throwing shoulder injury
Martin was not available Sunday and has not pitched since Wednesday due to soreness in his left, non-throwing shoulder, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Martin is a candidate to be placed on the injured list because the Red Sox are worried his injury could impact his mechanics and result in another injury. If he's not feeling better after an off day Monday, the Red Sox may call up another pitcher to take his place in the bullpen. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:49 pm
