  • Assad allows one in five innings against Giants
    Javier Assad allowed one run in five innings and got a no-decision against the Giants on Monday.



    Advice: Assad gave up five hits, walked two and struck out seven. He won four of his first nine starts of the season, but hasn’t won any of his last six starts. Assad struck out at least seven batters for the fourth time in his last five starts. His ERA is now 2.75 on the year. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets at home this weekend.

  • Hicks throws five shutout innings against Cubs
    Jordan Hicks threw five shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.



    Advice: Hicks gave up four hits, walked four and struck out four. It was a solid start for Hicks, who lowered his ERA to 2.82 on the season with the effort. The converted reliever hasn’t completed six innings in a start since April, but he continues to pitch well while he’s out there. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face his former team the Cardinals on the road this weekend.

  • Gray hammered in loss to Mets Monday
    Jon Gray allowed nine runs in three innings and took the loss against the Mets on Sunday.



    Advice: Gray gave up 11 hits, walked none and struck out two. Ouch. Gray’s ERA jumped up from 2.17 to 3.31 with this blow up. He probably didn’t deserve that 2.17 ERA to begin with given his xFIP was 3.52 entering Monday’s start. The 32-year-old right-hander will look to bounce back against the Royals at home this weekend.

  • Peterson wins third consecutive start Monday
    David Peterson allowed two runs in six innings and got the win in the Mets’ 14-2 victory over the Rangers on Monday.



    Advice: Peterson gave up four hits, walked three and struck out six. He’s now won three consecutive starts and the six strikeouts were a season-high. A former first round pick by the Mets in 2017, Peterson is once again getting a chance in the Mets’ rotation and seems to be making the most of it. He struggled with a 5.03 ERA in 27 appearances last year, but his 3.59 xFIP suggested he wasn’t quite that bad. He now has a 3.97 ERA in four starts this year. The 28-year-old left-hander is set to face the Cubs on the road this weekend.

  • Sonny Gray goes 7 2/3 in no-decision vs. Marlins
    Sonny Gray allowed two runs over 7 2/3 innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

    Advice: Gray was long gone before this one was decided in a 12-inning marathon, but he managed to complete seven frames for the second consecutive start. He struck out four and only issued two walks. The 34-year-old righty has been excellent this season in his St. Louis debut, allowing three earned runs or fewer in 10 of his 13 starts so far. He’ll bring a solid 2.95 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 95/22 K/BB ratio across 76 1/3 innings (13 starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the Giants. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:27 pm
  • Braxton Garrett bounces back against Cardinals
    Braxton Garrett yielded one run over six innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

    Advice: Garrett recorded six strikeouts and held the Cardinals to just a fifth-inning solo homer by Michael Siani over six strong frames. It was a much-needed rebound effort for the 26-year-old lefty after being tagged for 11 runs (nine earned) over his previous two starts against the Mets and Rays, respectively. He’ll bring a lackluster 5.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 34/4 K/BB ratio across 37 innings (seven starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the Mariners. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:27 pm

    Plesac will draw the start Monday versus the Brewers.

    Advice: Plesac will replace Jose Soriano (abdomen) on the mound after Soriano was a late scratch with lower abdominal pain Monday. Plesac had his contract selected by Los Angeles on Monday and he'll now get his first chance to start a major-league contest in 2024. The right-hander has produced a 5.42 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 74.2 innings in 13 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:30 pm
  • Angels bring Zach Plesac back to majors
    Angels selected the contract of RHP Zach Plesac from Triple-A Salt Lake.

    Advice: Plesac’s 5.42 ERA and 51/26 K/BB ratio in 74 2/3 innings for Salt Lake don’t bode well for a successful return to the majors here. Still, he can eat innings, and the Angels might have some need for that this week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:48 pm

    The Angels selected the contract of Plesac on Monday.

    Advice: After being designated for assignment by the Angels on April 8, Plesac stayed with the organization in Triple-A after passing through waivers. Across 13 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake, Plesac holds a 3-7 record with a 5.42 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. However, over his last two starts, he's given up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out 11 over 15.1 innings. With Chase Silseth (elbow) close to returning from the 60-day IL, Plesac will likely operate out of the Angels' bullpen after right-hander Jose Suarez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
