    • Solid in season debut
      Cole did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Orioles, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts over four innings.

      Advice: Cole surrendered a run on an RBI double by Ryan O'Hearn in the first inning then settled in over the next three. He allowed a single to Cedric Mullins to open the fifth and was pulled after throwing 62 pitches, but Mullins scored on a home run surrendered by Yankees reliever Ron Marinaccio. Cole maxed out at 68 pitches during his minor-league rehab, so the Yankees appear to be easing him into his return. He touched 97 mph on his fastball and generated six swinging strikes in a solid season debut and will look to build up his workload early next week against the Mets.     • Gerrit Cole allows two runs in four-plus innings
      Gerrit Cole lasted for four-plus innings in his return to the Yankees on Wednesday against the Orioles. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed two earned runs in a loss.

      Advice: Cole was not his sharpest, understandably, in this one. The Orioles are a tough matchup and they made lots of loud contact as Cole struggled with command, especially with his knuckle curve. The Yankees limited him to just 62 pitches in this one and he’ll have a chance to right the ship next week against the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:15 pm
       
    • Activated ahead of start
      The Yankees reinstated Cole (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

      Advice: Cole has been on the injured list all season due to nerve irritation in his right elbow, but he will now officially return to the Yankees' rotation and make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles. The 33-year-old righty was dominant during his three rehab starts, posting a minuscule 0.73 ERA while striking out 19 batters and walking none in 12.1 innings. However, he only built up to 68 pitches during his time in the minors, so he will likely be working under some sort of restriction during his return to a big-league mound.     • Yankees activate Gerrit Cole for 2024 season debut
      Yankees activated RHP Gerrit Cole from the 60-day injured list.

      Advice: The 33-year-old hurler is finally ready to make his highly anticipated 2024 season debut against the Orioles on Wednesday. He looked fantastic in three minor league rehab starts, registering a 0.73 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and a 19/1 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings. As long as he’s healthy and on the mound, there’s little reason to expect anything other than vintage Gerrit Cole on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:16 pm
       
    • Cruises to fourth win
      Cortes (4-5) picked up the win in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Orioles, allowing five hits over six scoreless innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

      Advice: The crafty lefty was at his baffling best, and the only runner Baltimore got past second base against Cortes came on an Austin Wells passed ball in the sixth inning. Cortes threw a season-high 105 pitches (64 strikes) in the outing, his first time in triple digits since April 20, while the quality start was his second straight and seventh of the campaign. He'll take a 3.36 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 86:18 K:BB through 93.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home this weekend against Atlanta. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:13 am
       
    • Falters against D-backs
      Irvin (5-6) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals fell 5-0 to the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: A lack of offensive support gave the right-hander no margin for error, but Irvin did himself no favors by tossing first-pitch strikes to only 11 of the 22 batters he faced and issuing a season high in free passes. In fact, the 27-year-old hadn't walked more than two batters in any 2024 start prior to Tuesday. Irvin will take a 3.24 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 71:19 K:BB through 86 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Coors Field.       Miller (6-5) earned the win Tuesday against the Guardians, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: It was another solid outing from Miller, who's now allowed just two earned runs over 12.2 innings in his last two starts. While he's been inconsistent at times this year, the 25-year-old Miller has turned in a respectable 3.46 ERA with a 1.01 WHIP and 82:26 K:BB across 15 starts (88.1 innings).     • Bryce Miller survives in win over Guardians
      Bryce Miller allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Guardians on Tuesday.

      Advice: Miller walked two and struck out two on the day. He had just six whiffs on 43 swings on the day, leading to a 14 percent whiff rate and 22 percent CSW on the day. The only pitch Miller recorded a whiff on all day was his fastball with his other pitches getting zero whiffs on 16 combined swings. The 25-year-old has a solid 3.46 ERA on the year, but the secondaries have yet to develop in a way that gives us confidence in his swing-and-miss upside this season. He remains a solid fantasy option and should be in for a good start against the Marlins this weekend, but it may take a pitch mix change to unlock the strikeouts that will give him a higher fantasy ceiling.     • Nestor Cortes blanks O’s for six innings in win
      Nestor Cortes pitched six scoreless innings while striking out six to earn the win on Tuesday against the Orioles.

      Advice: Cortes needed 25 pitches to get through the first inning, thanks in part to back-to-back singles by Adley Rutschman and Ryan Mountcastle. He would eventually settle in to pitch six scoreless innings without walking a batter. The five hits Cortes allowed all came on singles as he did everything within reason to hold a powerful Orioles lineup in check. Cortes has been feisty at home all season and draws another home start on Sunday against the Braves. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:16 pm
