• Jordan Montgomery hit for six runs in loss
Jordan Montgomery allowed six runs over three innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Advice: Montgomery had pitched well in his first two starts of the season, but was tagged for six runs against the Dodgers. Andy Pages got the scoring started with a two-run homer. Two doubles, a walk, and a base hit brought three more in to score before the end of the frame. Will Smith added a solo homer to lead off the third. Montgomery would complete the inning, but that would be it. The 31-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 5.63 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and an 8/4 K/BB ratio across 16 innings. He’ll take on the Reds in Cincinnati next week. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago
  • Bounces back with quality start
Musgrove didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts over six innings against the Reds.

Advice: After being tagged for seven runs and four long balls in his last start, Musgrove set a season high in strikeouts and notched his fourth quality start of the campaign. While three of the four hits did go for extra bases, including a first-inning solo homer by Spencer Steer, Musgrove was able to keep his opponent to less than three runs for the first time in four starts. Through eight starts, Musgrove owns a 2.2 HR/9 after having not allowed more than 1.1 HR/9 since 2017. He's tentatively scheduled for a start Tuesday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. • Start squandered by error, bullpen
Ashcraft didn't factor into the decision during Wednesday's 6-2 loss to San Diego, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Ashcraft's two unearned runs came in the fourth, when a two-out, two-RBI Jurickson Profar single plated Jackson Merrill -- who reached via error -- and Tyler Wade. Even with the mishap, Ashcraft left the game with the score knotted up at two, where it stood until Jake Cronenworth clubbed a grand slam in the seventh. Ashcraft has posted back-to-back quality starts and hasn't taken a loss since five starts. He'll look to extend that streak to six Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago
  • Converts on second save
Soto earned the save Wednesday against the Angels, allowing two hits with one strikeout over a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: Soto picked up his first save since Apr. 8, retiring back-to-back batters to close out the game and strand runners on first and third. While Soto shouldn't be expected to see much high-leverage work, it's worth noting that closer Jose Alvarado has pitched during the eighth inning in back-to-back games, leaving save chances to Soto and Jeff Hoffman. • Fans 10 in defeat
Sandoval (1-5) took the loss Wednesday against Philadelphia, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks over five innings. He struck out 10.

Advice: Despite tying for the second most strikeouts of his career and tying his season-best hits allowed total, Sandoval was stuck with his third consecutive loss as the Angels could only muster one run via a solo homer by Ehire Adrianza. He's now in a four-way tie for the most losses in baseball and has yet to complete six innings in a start this year. The southpaw is tentatively scheduled for a start against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

  • Notches third straight W
Wheeler (3-3) picked up the win Wednesday against the Angels, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Although Wheeler wasn't able to extend his streak of one-hit starts, he delivered another excellent outing. His lone blemish came in the second inning when Ehire Adrianza swatted a two-out solo homer. Wheeler has been one of the best arms in baseball lately, having surrendered one run on seven hits with 22 strikeouts in 18.1 innings across his last three starts. He'll look to keep the ball rolling in a tentative matchup with the Blue Jays next Wednesday. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago

  • Justin Steele goes 3 1/3 innings in rehab start
Justin Steele (hamstring) was a bit rusty in his first minor league rehab start at Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits over his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw walked one and struck out four on the day, throwing 41 of his 63 total pitches for strikes. Cubs’ skipper Craig Counsell told reporters afterwards that all went well with Steele’s start and that he’ll meet the team in Chicago on Friday to determine the next step. It had been anticipated that Steele would only require one minor league rehab start before he was cleared to return, and it’s looking like that very well could be the case. • Emmanuel Clase earns tenth save vs. Astros
Emmanuel Clase struck out one batter in a scoreless tenth inning to earn the save against the Astros.

Advice: After the Guardians took a one-run lead in the top of the tenth inning, Clase was called on to close it out in the bottom of the frame. He struck out the first batter, then got Mauricio Dubón to line into a double play with the help of an outstanding diving catch by Steven Kwan. Clase is up to nine saves with a 0.55 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and a 16/1 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings of work. Rotoworld Today, 8:00 pm
  • Triston McKenzie strikes out six in no-decision
Triston McKenzie allowed two runs with six strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: McKenzie was outstanding against the Astros on Wednesday. He had allowed just one hit across five scoreless innings before a double and a base hit brought the first run in for Houston in the sixth. Kyle Tucker led off the seventh inning with a game-tying homer. McKenzie finished the inning with two strikeouts, giving him six on the day. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.34 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and a 24/18 K/BB ratio across 29 innings into a start against the Tigers in Cleveland on Monday. Rotoworld Today, 7:59 pm
