• Officially activated
Friedl (wrist) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

Advice: Friedl has been cleared for big-league action after missing the first month and change of the 2024 campaign with a fractured right wrist. His reinstatement aligns with the start of a three-game homestand against the Diamondbacks, where he'll likely replace Stuart Fairchild as the Reds' primary center fielder versus right-handed pitching. In four rehab starts at Triple-A Louisville, Friedl went 4-for-16 (.250) with three doubles, three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago

  • Draws fifth consecutive start
Harris will start at third base and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: The righty-hitting Harris has now started in five consecutive games at third base since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, with three coming against left-handed pitchers and two coming against righties. Tyler Nevin will find himself as the odd man out of the lineup Tuesday against Rangers righty Jose Urena, but Harris may need to string together more strong performances to ensure he remains more than a short-side platoon player moving forward. Harris turned some heads with a two-homer performance in his second major-league game Saturday, but he's otherwise gone 1-for-10 at the dish in his other three starts. • Taking seat against southpaw
Cruz is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Angels.

Advice: The left-handed hitting Cruz was in the lineup each of the previous two times the Pirates faced a southpaw, but he will begin Tuesday's game on the bench as the Angels send lefty Patrick Sandoval to the hill. Alika Williams will occupy shortstop and bat ninth. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago

  • No timetable for return to majors
Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Abreu has "no timetable" to return to the major-league team, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Abreu was optioned to the rookie-level Astros' Arizona Complex League affiliate last week after hitting just .099/.156/.113 slash line in 77 plate appearances this season. He's been working on getting his swing right and is "doing very well," per Espada, although Abreu hasn't played in any official games yet. The 37-year-old will likely be assigned to a higher minor-league affiliate eventually as he works his way back to the big-league club. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago

  • Resumes hitting
Diaz (calf) has resumed taking batting practice but is not yet running the bases, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The veteran began a light running program in mid-April, but as this latest report indicates, he hasn't progressed to carrying it out fully just yet. The fact Diaz is back to swinging a bat is certainly a positive, however, but he appears to be at least a month away from his season debut given the expected length of the rehab assignment he'll require. • Setback after live BP
Waldichuk (elbow) experienced a setback after throwing a 25-pitch live batting practice April 29 and is shut down for the time being, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The left-hander has not thrown since that session and is slated to be reevaluated in coming days. It's naturally a tough break for Waldichuk, who opened the season on the 60-day IL but had been making uninterrupted progress prior to this recent stumble. Given Waldichuk will almost certainly require a full-length rehab assignment whenever he is cleared for game action, he may be hard-pressed to be ready for activation before mid-June. • Likely to get start Wednesday
The Athletics plan to call up Bido from Triple-A Las Vegas to make a start during Wednesday's doubleheader against the Rangers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bido has excelled this season for Las Vegas in a difficult pitching environment, posting a 2.59 ERA and 39:13 K:BB across 31.1 innings. The 28-year-old didn't have as much luck during his time in the big leagues with the Pirates last season with a 5.86 ERA in 50.2 frames, and his minor-league track record prior to 2024 isn't nearly as impressive. That said, Bido could have some staying power in the Oakland rotation beyond Wednesday, as the Athletics will be in need of a new No. 5 starter with Joe Boyle (back) landing on the 15-day injured list Monday. • A.J. Puk (shoulder) whiffs two in rehab appearance
A.J. Puk (shoulder) struck out two batters over a scoreless inning in a rehab appearance Monday in the Florida Complex League.

Advice: Puk is going to work out of the bullpen whenever he comes back from his shoulder injury, and the left-hander has looked solid thus far in his rehab appearances. The 29-year-old has had success in that relief role, and if the Marlins were to move closer Taylor Scott — something that has been rumored as of late — he could be inline for save chances. • Starts up rehab assignment
Puk (shoulder) made the second appearance of his rehab assignment with the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Monday, striking out two over a scoreless inning.

Advice: Puk has turned in identical two-strikeout perfect innings in the FCL since he started up his rehab assignment Friday. The left-hander broke camp as a member of the Miami rotation, but after turning in a 9.22 ERA and 2.63 WHIP over his four starts before landing on the injured list April 20 with shoulder fatigue, he'll work out of the bullpen once the Marlins activate him. Puk could settle into a high-leverage role in front of closer Tanner Scott right away upon his return to the big club. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:22 pm
