• CT scan on Ryan Pepiot’s leg comes back negative
A CT scan on Ryan Pepiot’s left leg came back negative for any fractures.

Advice: Pepiot was sent for some additional imaging after taking a 107.5 mph comebacker off his left leg during Sunday’s series finale against the Mets. The positive news is that he appears to have avoided serious injury, but Rays manager Kevin Cash indicated late Tuesday that the 26-year-old righty is likely headed for the injured list. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers since Pepiot has been pitching extremely well this season in his Tampa Bay debut. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago

  • Montas takes tough luck loss in return from IL
Frankie Montas allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Advice: Montas was sharp in his return from the IL, striking out seven and walking just one. He allowed just one extra-base hit on the day and his two runs were driven in on a fielder’s choice and single to score a runner who was only on because of an Elly De La Cruz error. Montas was throwing two mph harder on every pitch in his arsenal; however, he was only able to get strikeouts on his splitter and registered a 25 percent CSW. It feels a little bit like Montas will still go as far as his splitter will take him, which makes him a risky proposition in fantasy leagues but one you can likely start against the Giants this weekend. • Kyle Finnegan notches 12th save of the season
Kyle Finnegan recorded his 12th save of the season in Tuesday’s win over the Orioles.

Advice: Finnegan pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the Orioles in the 3-0 win. The Nationals closer is now 12-of-13 in save opportunities this season and is a perfect 3-for-3 in save opportunities this month. He and the National will look to record a two-game sweep of the Orioles in the short series on Wednesday. Rotoworld 46 minutes ago

  • Ian Gibaut (forearm) to undergo surgery Thursday
Ian Gibaut (forearm) is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday in Los Angeles.

Advice: There should be a clearer timetable for Gibaut’s potential return following the surgical procedure. The 30-year-old righty is expected to undergo either a relatively minor carpal tunnel release or a much more invasive forearm nerve procedure that would require a longer recovery time. • Chad Green (shoulder) resumes throwing

  • Marlins designate Darren McCaughan for assignment
Marlins designate Darren McCaughan for assignment.

Advice: McCaughan was removed from Miami’s 40-man roster over the weekend after spending just a couple days up with the big-league club. Rotoworld Today, 4:41 pm
  • Marlins call up Eli Villalobos from Triple-A
Marlins selected the contract of RHP Eli Villalobos from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Villalobos was called up over the weekend by the Marlins as extra relief depth. The 26-year-old righty made his big-league debut over the weekend and figures to continue to pitching in middle relief. Rotoworld Today, 4:37 pm
  • Marlins recall George Soriano on Tuesday
Marlins recalled RHP George Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Soriano provides the Marlins with a fresh bullpen arm ahead of Tuesday’s showdown out west against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The 25-year-old righty has made eight relief appearances this season in the big leagues, struggling to an inflated 10.29 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 8/6 K/BB ratio across seven innings of work. • Recalled from Jacksonville
The Marlins recalled Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.

Advice: Soriano will come up from the minors to provide additional depth to the Marlins' bullpen as Roddery Munoz heads back to Triple-A. Soriano gave up eight earned runs in seven innings during his first big-league stint this year, so he will likely be limited to low-leverage work while in the majors. Rotowire.com Today, 4:12 pm
