    • Nick Gordon (illness) still out of Marlins lineup
Nick Gordon (illness) was held out of the Marlins’ starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game on Friday night.

Advice: Gordon hasn’t appeared in a game since last Saturday and will now miss his fourth straight game due to illness. It sounds like he’s getting closer to a return though, so the Marlins will continue to take things on a day-to-day basis rather than utilizing a backdated stint on the injured list. Dane Myers will draw a start in right field and bat sixth for the Marlins on Friday night against Drew Thorpe and the White Sox. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:05 pm

    • Begins rehab assignment
Bogaerts (shoulder) went 1-for-3 with a walk in his first rehab game with Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Advice: Bogaerts is expected to require 7-to-10 days on his rehab assignment, so he could be back just before the All-Star break if all goes well. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since late May with a fractured left shoulder. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:14 am

    • Reaches four times in win
Lowe went 3-for-5 in Thursday's win over the Royals with a double, a homer and three runs scored while also drawing a walk.

Advice: Lowe doubled in his second trip to the plate before coming around to score four batters later on a Jonny DeLuca single, extending Tampa Bay's lead to four runs. The second baseman then added a solo homer in the sixth and went on to reach four times in the contest - the first time he's done so this season. Lowe's three hits on the night also marked a season high, and he's now homered three of his last four games. Over that stretch he's batting .333 (5-for-15) with three RBI and six runs scored. • Xander Bogaerts reaches twice in rehab contest
Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) went 1-for-3 with a walk on Thursday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A El Paso.

Advice: Bogaerts, who was at designated hitter on Thursday in his rehab assignment debut, is working his way back from a fractured left shoulder that sent him to the injured list back on May 20. The 31-year-old figures to return as San Diego’s primary option at the keystone, but could wind up bouncing around between several positions moving forward. He’s going to require additional rehab contests to get back up to speed before returning to San Diego’s lineup. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:23 am

    • Lowe has three hits, home run in win over Royals
Brandon Lowe went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a home run and three runs scored against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: Lowe’s home run was his eighth of the season and third in his last four games. He took Will Smith deep for a solo shot in the sixth inning. It hasn’t been Lowe’s best season, but he’s showing signs of life lately. He’s hitting .229 with an .810 OPS and 25 RBI on the year. Rotoworld Thursday, 8:46 pm
    • Goes deep in blowout loss
Keith went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 12-3 loss to the Twins, which was called after seven innings due to rain.

Advice: Keith was a bright spot for the Tigers on an ugly afternoon in Minneapolis. The young second baseman now has consecutive multi-hit efforts, and he's tripled and gone deep during the stretch. Overall, Keith has been so-so this year with a .236 average and .620 OPS, though he's been better from May onward after a rough first month in the majors. There's still potential for a big finish from the 22-year-old rookie. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:25 pm

    • Xander Bogaerts starts rehab assignent Thursday
Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A El Paso.

Advice: The veteran shortstop has been sidelined since May 20th with a fractured left shoulder. The team originally claimed his absence would be two months, which would be almost exactly after the All-Star break. Considering Bogaerts will need a few rehab appearances to get his timing back, the Padres could wait until after the break to call him up, but there’s a chance we’d see him at the end of next week if all goes well. The 31-year-old has not been great this season even when healthy, hitting .219/.265/.316 in 47 games with four home runs and four steals. It’s fair to wonder how often Bogaerts will run when he comes back since head-first slides into second base could risk aggravating the shoulder injury. Given his modest power output, if his stolen base totals take a meaningful hit, he would likely be a middle infield option for deeper leagues but not a starting shortstop in shallower formats. • Getting breather Thursday
Polanco is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: Polanco was given a semi-day off Wednesday in the designated hitter slot and will be out of the lineup altogether Thursday. Ryan Bliss is getting the start at second base for the Mariners. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:09 am

    • Out of Thursday's lineup
Merrifield is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Merrifield has gone 4-for-23 over his past 11 contests and will hit the bench for Thursday's series finale in Chicago. Brandon Marsh, Johan Rojas and David Dahl will start from left to right in the outfield. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:56 am
