    • Gets back in win column
Canning (3-8) allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings to earn the win over the Athletics on Monday.

Advice: Canning limited the damage to a Tyler Nevin solo home run in the second inning. This strong outing -- Canning's longest of the season -- ended his four-start losing streak. It's just the fourth time in 16 starts he's given up one run or less. The right-hander is now at a 4.72 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 59:30 K:BB through 87.2 innings this season. Canning is projected to make his next start at home versus the Tigers. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:53 pm

    • Griffin Canning goes seven to beat A’s
Griffin Canning limited the A’s to one run in seven innings for a victory in a 5-1 game Monday.

Advice: Tyler Nevin’s homer was the only damage. The A’s almost had another homer against Hans Crouse in the ninth, but Taylor Ward caught Tyler Soderstrom’s shot to left that likely would have bounced off the top of the wall and over. The win was Canning’s first since May 15 and third in 16 starts on the season. He’s clearly throwing better now than he did in April, but it’s not enough to offer him mixed-league value. • Effective again Monday
Paxton allowed three hits and three walks while striking out six batters over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Monday.

Advice: Paxton needed 91 pitches to get through five frames, so he wasn't able to record a third straight quality start or hang around long enough for Los Angeles' offense to supply him a run. Nonetheless, the veteran left-hander was very effective, and he flashed some of the swing-and-miss stuff of his peak seasons with 18 whiffs. Since giving up a season-high seven runs (six earned) over 1.2 innings versus Pittsburgh in his first start of June, Paxton has surrendered just two runs across 18 frames over his subsequent three outings. The strikeout numbers have been improving too -- Paxton's two best punchout performances of the campaign have come in his past two starts. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:29 pm
    • Robert Jr. has double, two walks in loss Monday
Luis Robert Jr. went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks against the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: Robert Jr. only has 91 at-bats this season, but he’s hitting .198 with a 35 percent strikeout percentage. For one of the most talked about potential trade pieces in baseball, he’s really had a rough season. Robert Jr.'s BABIP is only .217, which is well below his career .328 BABIP, but he still needs to cut his strikeouts. Maybe the two walks show that he’s seeing it better at the plate and he can start to turn his season around with a little more than a month before the trade deadline. Rotoworld Monday, 8:20 pm

    • Paxton tosses five scoreless in no-decision Monday
James Paxton allowed no runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Dodgers’ 3-0 victory over the White Sox on Monday.

Advice: Paxton gave up three hits, walked three and struck out six. He had won his last two starts, but the Dodgers couldn’t score any runs to support him. It was still a good effort from Paxton, who lowered his ERA to 3.39 in the process. The 35-year-old left-hander is set to face the Giants on the road this weekend.

    • Exiting lineup Monday
Mountcastle is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: Mountcastle appears to be getting a routine breather for the series opener versus the Guardians after he had started in each of Baltimore's last nine games while slashing .282/.310/.385 with seven RBI and six runs. With Mountcastle taking a seat, Ryan O'Hearn will pick up a start at first base. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:43 am

    • Throwing live BP on Monday
Gallen (hamstring) is slated to throw a live batting practice session Monday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gallen threw 52 pitches in a previous simulated game this past Tuesday, so he'll likely increase his workload a bit in Monday's throwing session. If all goes well, the right-hander will likely be activated from the 15-day injured list during the Diamondbacks' series against Oakland that begins Friday. Gallen has been on the shelf since May 30 with a right hamstring strain. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:42 am

    • Goes yard again
Smith went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 4-0 win over Kansas City.

Advice: Smith tagged Sam Long for a solo shot in the seventh inning, marking Smith's third home run in the last five games. During that stretch, he's 7-for-13 with six RBI. With third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) nearing a return, Smith could shift away from the hot corner and into the DH slot. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:40 pm
    • Labors through loss
Marsh (5-5) took the loss Sunday against Texas, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Marsh tied his season high in hits allowed Sunday and failed to complete six innings for the fourth time in his last five starts. While he didn't surrender a home run, the Rangers did tag Marsh for three doubles. All three runs against Marsh came in the fourth inning, when he allowed three straight hits to open the frame before yielding a two-out, two-RBI single to Leody Taveras. After posting a 4-2 record and a 3.24 ERA across his first nine starts, Marsh has put up a 6.66 ERA with a 1-3 record in June. He'll look to close out the month on a high note during a projected start against the Guardians next weekend. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:37 pm
