    • Brenton Doyle homers twice to lead Rockies
Brenton Doyle homered twice, doubled and walked Monday as the Rockies edged the Brewers 8-7 in 10 innings.

Advice: Doyle’s second homer tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. The center fielder was dropped from second to seventh in the Rockies lineup before the game, presumably because he’d hit .200/.225/.292 in his previous 16 games. The two homers gave him nine or the year, and he also swiped his 20th base. We’re not big believers in Doyle’s offense from an OPS standpoint, but with Coors Field helping him along, he likely will have lasting value in mixed leagues. Rotoworld Today, 9:19 pm

    • Nolan Jones collects two hits in Rockies’ win
Nolan Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a walk versus the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: The second hit also would have been at least a double, but it hit first base umpire Brian O’Nora on its way down the first base line, resulting in a single. Jones has had issues with strikeouts since coming off the IL last month, but he’s hitting the ball harder than he did in April and drawing a bunch of walks (12 in 15 games). He should prove pretty useful in mixed leagues the rest of the way. Rotoworld Today, 9:19 pm

    • Garrett Mitchell reaches twice in 2024 debut
Garrett Mitchell singled and walked in three plate appearances off the bench in his season debut Monday against the Rockies.

Advice: The single was hit 108 mph, so this was definitely a nice start for Mitchell. It’ll take consistent playing time to make him a factor in mixed leagues, so he’s probably not an option right now. He offers plenty of upside, though. Rotoworld Today, 9:19 pm
    • Monster performance in win
Doyle went 3-for-4 with two homers, a steal, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's 8-7 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Doyle opened the game's scoring when he blasted a mammoth 445-foot, two-run homer off Bryse Wilson in the second. The Colorado center fielder then cracked a solo shot in the eighth to tie the game at 7-7. Doyle also added his 20th stolen base of the season when he nabbed second in the fourth inning. After a rough .203 batting average in his rookie year, the 26-year-old sophomore has become a steady producer in 2024, now hitting .260 with nine homers, 48 runs scored and 30 RBI. • Giants outright Trenton Brooks
Giants sent 1B Trenton Brooks outright to Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Brooks was DFA’d last week after going 3-for-25 in his first major league stint. It’s his first outright assignment, so he’ll go back to being a key cog in the River Cats’ lineup. Rotoworld Today, 6:03 pm
    • Brewers have no plans to use Sal Frelick at third
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said he’s open to playing Sal Frelick at third base with Garrett Mitchell back, but that he has no immediate plans to do so.

Advice: Before Mitchell suffered a fractured finger at the very end of the spring, it looked like the Brewers would mostly play Mitchell in center and Frelick at third, with Joey Ortiz serving as a utilityman. Ortiz, though, has earned regular playing time, and Frelick has totaled just four innings at third base since the season started. Frelick would seem to be the favorite for playing time in center field at the moment, but both he and Mitchell are taking a backseat to Blake Perkins tonight. Rotoworld Today, 4:05 pm

    • Joey Ortiz (neck) returns to Brewers lineup
Joey Ortiz is back at third base Monday after a three-game absence due to neck stiffness.

Advice: Ortiz is leading off with the Brewers facing a lefty tonight. He’ll continue to hit low in the order against righties. Rotoworld Today, 4:00 pm

    • Reps at third base not ruled out
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Monday that using Frelick at third base is a possibility following the return of Garrett Mitchell, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Frelick had been in line for regular reps at the hot corner before Mitchell was hurt late in spring training. However, with Joey Ortiz having since established himself at third base, it sounds like Frelick seeing action there won't be a priority. Frelick has played four innings at third base this season, which is the first time he's been used there in pro ball. Rotowire.com Today, 3:58 pm

    • Throws, hits in cage
Bryant (oblique) did some throwing and hit in the batting cage Monday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Advice: There remains no timetable for Bryant's return to action, but he does appear to be making progress as he works his way back from a left oblique strain. Bryant has already missed nearly a month of action and will require a rehab assignment before being activated. Rotowire.com Today, 3:06 pm
