      Advice: This wasn’t one Stone’s best outings as the Diamondbacks chased him after just three frames. A base hit and two walks loaded the bases before the Diamondbacks brought a run in on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. He worked around a bases-loaded jam in the second, then gave up three runs, including a two-run blast by Gabriel Moreno, in the third.       Jon Gray allowed three earned runs in four-plus innings on Wednesday against the Padres. He struck out two and walked two.

      Advice: Gray labored in this one. He didn’t record a single 1-2-3 inning and was yanked after allowing the first two batters to reach in the fifth. He was much better earlier this season when he was throwing enough curveballs and changeups to keep hitters honest.       Blake Snell delivered a dominant performance in his final minor league rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, piling up nine strikeouts over five scoreless frames.

      Advice: The reigning National League Cy Young award winner didn’t allow a hit in the contest, allowing just one base on balls. Snell got up to 67 pitches (46 strikes) in this one, cruising through his five innings. As long as he checks out fine physically, expect him to rejoin the Giants’ rotation next week.
