  • Kenley Jansen earns second save in two days
    Kenley Jansen earned his second save in two days with a scoreless ninth Sunday against the Reds.

    Advice: It’s Jansen’s 15th save of the year and No. 435 in his career. Jansen and Chris Martin both pitched for the second straight day today, so unless the Red Sox are willing to go to one of them three days in a row, Justin Slaten might get the ninth in a save situation Monday.     The Marlins placed Garrett on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a left forearm flexor strain.

    Advice: The Marlins announced Saturday that Garrett wouldn't start as scheduled Sunday against the Mariners after he reported soreness in his left elbow. After further examination, the team has uncovered a strain in his left forearm, which will cause him to miss a few extra turns through the rotation.   • Braxton Garrett to IL with flexor tendon strain
    Marlins placed LHP Braxton Garrett on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm flexor tendon strain.

    Advice: The hits just keep on coming to Miami’s injury-ravaged starting rotation with Garrett becoming the latest to fall victim to the injury bug. The major concern here is that forearm flexor tendon strains are often a precursor to more significant elbow issues, which could wind up leading to surgery. The 26-year-old southpaw will presumably undergo a battery of tests to determine the severity of the issue after experiencing elbow discomfort earlier this week.     Jansen earned a a save against the Reds on Saturday, allowing one hit in a scoreless inning.

    Advice: Jansen worked around a two-out single to close out his 10th straight successful save. The veteran closer has posted a 22:3 K:BB over 18.2 innings during that span while posting a 2.41 ERA. Jansen continues to get the job done in his 15th MLB season -- he's converted 14 of 15 save opportunities while registering a 2.49 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 25.1 frames.   • Hit hard Saturday
    Berrios (6-6) allowed five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Guardians.

    Advice: The Guardians aren't known for power, but they tagged Berrios with three home runs -- Bo Naylor, Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan all took the right-hander deep. With seven homers allowed over his last four starts, Berrios' trouble with the long ball is becoming a concern. He's given up 14 runs across 22.2 innings in that span and now has a 3.43 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB through 97 innings across 16 starts this season.     Jose Berrios allowed five runs in five innings and took the loss against the Guardians on Saturday.



    Advice: Berrios gave up six hits, walked one and struck out three. Home runs have been a problem for Berrios this year and he allowed three more of them on Saturday. He’s now allowed a total of 17 home runs in 16 starts. His 1.58 HR/9 would be a career-high. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Yankees at home next weekend.

    MLB.com’s Christina De Nicola reports Braxton Garrett won’t start Sunday against the Mariners due to left elbow discomfort.

    Advice: It’s a virtual lock that Garrett will land on the injured list later this weekend and it’s yet another devastating hit to Miami’s injury-depleted starting rotation. At this point, there’s almost nobody left from the Marlins’ pre-season pitching plans.     Advice: Garrett reported having problems in his elbow following a bullpen session Friday, so the Marlins will play it safe and hold him out of Sunday's contest. The 26-year-old southpaw will undergo further testing, and the results will help determine if he needs to spend some time on the injured list.
