• Jared Jones turns in quality start in loss
Jared Jones yielded three runs — two earned — in six innings Friday in a loss to the Cubs.

Advice: The unearned run was the product of Yasmani Grandal losing the ball on the tag on what should have been a very nice play to get Nico Hoerner at home. It’s rare to see errors called on such things, but Grandal had plenty of time to get the tag down after a fantastic relay from Oneil Cruz and just botched it. Jones finished with just four strikeouts tonight despite getting 18 whiffs. Part of the problem was that he had only nine called strikes on his 87 pitches. He’s now 2-4, even though his ERA stands at 2.68. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

  • Evan Carter sits against another southpaw Friday
Evan Carter is once again on the Rangers’ bench against an opposing southpaw on Friday night.

Advice: It’s the third time this week that the Rangers have faced a left-handed starter, and the third time that the 21-year-old outfielder has found himself on the bench. Ezequiel Duran will start in his place in left field and will bat seventh against Austin Gomber and the Rockies at Coors Field. Rotoworld Today, 2:48 pm

  • Sitting against lefty
Donovan isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Left-hander Robert Gasser will make his MLB debut Friday as Milwaukee's starting pitcher, meaning the left-handed bat of Donovan will watch the beginning of the game from the Cardinals' dugout. Lars Nootbaar, Mike Siani and Dylan Carlson will start across St. Louis' outfield while Donovan sits. Rotowire.com Today, 2:23 pm

  • Sitting versus left-hander
Gorman is not in the starting lineup for Friday's contest with the Brewers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Gorman will take a seat as left-hander Robert Gasser makes his major-league debut on the mound for Milwaukee. Jose Fermin will draw the start at second base in his place and bat leadoff against the Brewers. Rotowire.com Today, 2:21 pm

  • Not among starters
Naylor is not included in the starting lineup for Friday's outing against the White Sox.

Advice: The lefty catcher will get some rest as the Guardians take on southpaw starter Garrett Crochet. Austin Hedges will take over at catcher and bat ninth in place of Naylor. Rotowire.com Today, 1:24 pm

  • Delivers winning run
Carroll went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Reds.

Advice: Carroll delivered the go-ahead run on a two-out single in the top of the eighth inning, a half inning after the Reds plated three runs to tie the game. The outfielder returned to the top of the order this week after a season-opening slump dropped him to the lower third in late April. He's worked through the slow start, which he attributed to a flat swing, per Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. Carroll has a pop-up rate of 15.2 percent on the season, more than double than what it was in 2023 (7.3 percent). Rotowire.com Today, 4:43 am
  • Goes deep in loss
Volpe went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Volpe accounted for New York's first scores with a two-run blast to right field in the third inning. It was his second homer in his past three contests following a 25-game stretch during which he went deep just once. Volpe is still batting just .200 through eight games in May, but he's held onto the leadoff spot, batting first in the order in all of the Yankees' contests so far this month. • Improves to 4-0
Blanco (4-0) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Blanco was a bit shaky with his control, as he threw just 62 of 107 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with four free passes. However, he allowed just one extra-base hit -- an Anthony Volpe two-run homer that accounted for both runs against him. Blanco thus improved his perfect record to 4-0 on the season, and he's allowed three or fewer runs in all seven of his starts. He's also recorded five quality starts on the campaign, falling one out shy in each of his two outings during which he hasn't met that mark. Blanco has cemented his place in Houston's rotation with a 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41:20 K:BB through 44.1 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:04 pm
