With news that Encarnacion-Strand opted for surgery that likely spells the end of his season, Steer is in line to become the club's primary first baseman.     Advice: Polanco finished up his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma by belting three home runs and compiling six RBI over his final two games, but that prodigious bat was nowhere to be found in his return to the big leagues Monday. The veteran disappointingly reverted to the struggles that have defined most of his season, and following Monday's trio of punchouts, Polanco now sports a career-worst 31.9 percent strikeout rate.     Spencer Steer went 2-for-4 with three RBI on Monday in the Reds’ lopsided win over the Pirates.

    Advice: It’s pretty remarkable that the Reds finished with 11 runs in this one considering they put three straight zeroes on the scoreboard to open the contest before Steer finally got Cincinnati on the board with a two-run double in the fourth inning.
