• Jeremy Peña snaps homerless drought
After being stuck on five for six weeks, Jeremy Peña finally hit his sixth homer Monday in the win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Peña seems to have things turned around now after a month-long slump; he’s 9-for-29 with five extra-base hits, eight RBI and a 2/4 K/BB in his last eight games. Rotoworld Today, 3:15 pm

  • Report: White Sox intend to trade Garrett Crochet
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported that “the White Sox intend to trade [Garrett Crochet] by the July 30 trade deadline.”

Advice: According to Nightengale, the White Sox “quietly engaged in brief contract extension talks” with Crochet,” but there is “no optimism towards reaching an agreement,” so the team is now intent on moving him. As of now, the White Sox have allegedly had 15 teams call to express interest in Crochet, who is making just $800,000 and is under team control through 2026. Some potential concerns surrounding the left-hander are just how much he’ll pitch over the summer after having already thrown 21 more innings than his entire career total heading into this season. There are some additional concerns about whether “a team acquiring Crochet may have to offer a contract extension for him to lift those innings restrictions in the second half because of the potential of an injury risk.” We should get more clarity on Crochet’s market over the next couple of weeks, but he seems like a strong bet to be dealt. • Throws off mound
Garcia (elbow) threw a bullpen session Sunday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: The reliever will throw another bullpen session Wednesday before the next steps in his rehab program are determined. Garcia has missed just two weeks with a nerve issue in his right elbow, so it's possible he'll skip a rehab assignment and return from the 15-day injured list whenever the Blue Jays feel that he's ready. With Jordan Romano (elbow) out indefinitely, Garcia should be back in the mix for saves once he returns, perhaps even as the club's top option. Chad Green has been serving as Toronto's closer since Garcia landed on the IL but hasn't received any save chances during that stretch. Rotowire.com Today, 9:37 am

  • Records 17th steal Sunday
Rodriguez went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in a loss to the Twins on Sunday.

Advice: Rodriguez's hit was only his second in the last 31 plate appearances, a seven-game span where the talented outfielder has generated an anemic .069 average and .198 OPS. The multi-game skid has temporarily erased a lot of the progress Rodriguez had made after a slow start to the season, as his slash line has dropped to a middling .247/.297/.327. However, there are underlying metrics that suggest Rodriguez is running into some tough luck as well -- he owns an expected batting average and slugging percentage of .272 and .434, respectively, and he's also boasting a career-best 21.7 percent line-drive rate. • Yimi Garcia threw a bullpen on Sunday
Yimi García (elbow) threw a bullpen without issue on Sunday.

Advice: Blue Jays manager John Schneider said García will do it again Wednesday before the team decides on the next steps. With Jordan Romano shutting down his throwing program again, García could return to a closer’s role for the remainder of the season (or until the trade deadline) if he responds well to the next bullpen session. • Fills in at shortstop
Smith started at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's 11-2 win over Baltimore.

Advice: Smith got the start at shortstop with Corey Seager (wrist) day-to-day. Seager was hit by a pitch during Saturday's game and, although X-rays came back negative, took a seat for the series finale against the Orioles. The Rangers are off Monday, giving Seager another 24 hours of healing, before a three-game set against the Padres. Once Seager is deemed healthy enough to return to shortstop, Smith will head back to third base, where he will continue to fill in for the injured Josh Jung (wrist), who may be back in the lineup soon, though the team is still evaluating him. • Fans 10 Sunday
Ryan allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out 10 over 5.2 innings Sunday against the Mariners. He did not factor into the decision.

Advice: Ryan got through four innings unscathed while racking up eight of his 10 strikeouts over that span. He found himself in some immediate trouble in the fifth after allowing a leadoff triple and wound up surrendering two runs in the inning following a pair of base knocks and a fielding error. Sunday was Ryan's second double-digit strikeout performance this season and his second straight outing without walking a batter. He's given up two runs or less in four of his last five starts, though that's only amounted to one win. The 28-year-old will carry an excellent 3.21 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 110:15 K:BB (103.2 innings) into a meeting with the ascending Astros over the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 2:32 am

  • Stays hot Sunday
Pasquantino went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Guardians.

Advice: Pasquantino has gone 11-for-27 (.407) with nine RBI across his last seven games, ending June on a high note. The first baseman's recent surge has him up to a .247/.321/.436 slash line for the year, nearly identical to his marks over 61 contests in 2023. He's added 10 home runs, 55 RBI, 39 runs scored, 21 doubles and two triples through 82 games this year, playing on a near-everyday basis between first base and designated hitter. • Taylor Ward (head) likely to play Tuesday
Angels manager Ron Washington said after the game that Taylor Ward was fine after being hit in the helmet by a pitch.

Advice: It sounds like Ward will be ready to go after the off day Monday. He left Sunday’s game in the ninth after a Shelby Miller fastball got him on the ear flap. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:40 pm
